slightly smokey, smooth and creamy. a bit acrid and nutty with a roasted facet to it. clean finish with spice of licorice and star anise and a hoppy component. metal aroma is not of interest and it is only moderate of body. suited well to this time of year and what one would look for with its fortifying alcohol that is well hidden. i enjoyed this one.

Dec 2, 2009 On cask at Friday the Firkenteenth at the Grey Lodge Pub. Pours a flat, opaque black with no head. Nice, toasted, nutty aroma. Flavor of cold coffee, nuts, toasted grains, brown sugar. Bitter finish from the burnt grains. Dry finish too. Smooth and drinkable.

Nov 29, 2009 Growler, thanks nimbleprop. Medium brown head atop dark brown-red body. Aroma is moderately sweet, milk chocolate, roast, caramel. Taste is moderately sweet, roast/coffee, milk chocolate, earthy, some caramel, light smoke. Sticky medium body, low carbonation.

Nov 29, 2009 Growler shared by nimbleprop: Pours an oily opaque with dark mahogany edges and a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel malts with a fresh piny resiny hop balance and some roastiness. Starts with pretty good fullness and lightly sweet dark caramel and chocolate malts with a nice grapefruity hop flavor. Finishes drier and bittersweet with a touch of roasty coffee. A pretty nice sweet stout.

Nov 21, 2009 Growler from Big Z beverage. Pours a dark brown with a plentiful dark tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and oatmeal. Flavor of roasted malt with a smooth, milky palate. A pretty good oatmeal stout and definitely very drinkable.

Nov 13, 2009 Strong aroma of coffee and malts with a normal dark oil stout appearance. Stout and coffee flavors as well, but smooth - not as potent. Overall delicious on firkin at The Grey Lodge.

Nov 5, 2009 A Sim rate (on tap at Spitzer’s Corner): Sweet vanilla aroma. Subtle enough that it’s not overwhelming with a slight bitter chocolate note. Bitter chocolate again in the flavour with a real roastiness. There’s a nice kick in the finish. It’s the epitome of a stout... the way it should be. Nice full flavour in the finish. Yum.

Oct 31, 2009 On tap at Pony Bar. Black with light brown head. Roasted coffee yeasty bready aroma. Roasted coffee and chocolate with roasted bitter finish and lingering dusty coffee grounds or dry hop in the nose. NIce smooth texture and body. Pretty good.

Oct 11, 2009 Sample at RnH in NyC. Pours a dark blackish brown body. The aroma is slight coffee and bread. The flavor is smooth with notes of oat, coffee, slight chocolate malts, and roast of course.
