Commercial Description:
When I think of the word “Stout,” all the words and images that are conjured have one thing in common: LARGE SIZE. I believe a stout should be a celebration of all the robust flavors of its signature style. Therefore, I created the Sixpoint Otis as an accentuation of the distinguishing characteristics of stout beer: roasted flavor, full body, and hop bitterness. My favorite style of stout is Oatmeal Stout - a rare variety that earns its name from brewers adding whole flaked oats to the mash. When added in small quantities, I find the oats do not typically add much flavor to the stouts, but they have an incredible impact on the mouthfeel and body. Celebrate our Oatmeal Stout by enjoying its texture! The oats provide a silky, velvety mouthfeel. Celebrate our Oatmeal stout by enjoying its roastedness! I add extra quantities of roasted barley – the malt that lends stout beer its dark color – to provide a flavor of rich coffee. Celebrate our Oatmeal Stout by enjoying its balance! The deep caramel, toffee, and molasses flavors are complimented by even additions of hops throughout. Celebrate by ordering a pint of the Otis!

The color is dark, almost black. Light but nice aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Chocolate and dark caramel flavor, with some roasted malt later, and quite strong bitterness. Well balanced and correctly brewed.

Draft at Rattle N Hum, NYC. Deep brown body with frothy tan head. Nice aroma of roasted malts, coffee, caramel, toffee. Not much hop nose, just a hint of resin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter and lightly acidic. There is a slight taste in the finish that reminds me of rye, but must be the particular combination of hop and roast bitterness. Medium body, velvety texture, at least in the beginning, lively carbonation. Easy to drink, but average sweet stout.

On cask at Friday the Firkenteenth at the Grey Lodge Pub. Pours a flat, opaque black with no head. Nice, toasted, nutty aroma. Flavor of cold coffee, nuts, toasted grains, brown sugar. Bitter finish from the burnt grains. Dry finish too. Smooth and drinkable.

Growler shared by nimbleprop: Pours an oily opaque with dark mahogany edges and a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel malts with a fresh piny resiny hop balance and some roastiness. Starts with pretty good fullness and lightly sweet dark caramel and chocolate malts with a nice grapefruity hop flavor. Finishes drier and bittersweet with a touch of roasty coffee. A pretty nice sweet stout.

Growler from Big Z beverage. Pours a dark brown with a plentiful dark tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and oatmeal. Flavor of roasted malt with a smooth, milky palate. A pretty good oatmeal stout and definitely very drinkable. 7/4/7/4/15 [3.7/5]

Strong aroma of coffee and malts with a normal dark oil stout appearance. Stout and coffee flavors as well, but smooth - not as potent. Overall delicious on firkin at The Grey Lodge.

A Sim rate (on tap at Spitzer’s Corner): Sweet vanilla aroma. Subtle enough that it’s not overwhelming with a slight bitter chocolate note. Bitter chocolate again in the flavour with a real roastiness. There’s a nice kick in the finish. It’s the epitome of a stout... the way it should be. Nice full flavour in the finish. Yum.
