The pour made me wonder whether I had opened a flat bottle. There was almost no carbonation bubbles but eventually a thin head formed. It even laced the glass along the way. It had little aroma, but what little there was was of malt. The taste impressed me. I enjoyed the roasted toastiness of the malt, balanced with enough subtle bitterness to forget the sweetness. I’ll have another, please! Smoke3Smokes (72), Boone, North Carolina, USA

I don’t think it is too stout but if you drink enough then you will be buzzin’. jgentgesdo (564), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

Nose is best part - initially almost meaty, olive and coffee notes. The flavor is almost like shiner bock with a little extra smokiness thrown in - slightly smoky/roasted malt and coffee, biting unpleasant end - dreck. Bockyhorsey (2540), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 1/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Aug 19, 2005 Nice aroma of nuts and roasty malts. But boy went downhill from there. Body dark color no head to speak of. Had a watery half sweet maly flavor to it. Roasty aftertaste but nothing special. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 30, 2005 Dark brown color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is caramel malts slightly sweet. A medium bodied brown ale. Malts are nutty and sweet. Hops are slightly bitter. A little thin tasting and the flavors kind of dissipate quickly. There is also a touch of cardboard here as well. Not a great effort. Drinkable, but nothing very notable of interesting. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
