Commercial Description:
This English Special Bitter is our “Special Ale.” Special because it is one of only a handful of canned microbrews in the nation. Special because the Galena hops and pale ale malts create a crisp first sip, a hoppy tongue, and a malty sweet finish. Though “bitter” is part of the name, “better” would be a more accurate term. Fresh and lively, this canned beer suits the needs of any outdoor enthusiast. Like it says on the can: Fish, Luau, Golf, Raft, Toboggan. Ska can!

12 oz canner, pours a clear amber with a thin head. Aroma is sweet, light fruit. flavor is sweet malty and a light touch of nuttyness. Body is medium thickness, a little bit watered down. Pretty good carbonaiton for a can. Got this one at the Lighthouse Beer and Wine shop in Willmington NC.

12 oz. can and likin’ that! Nice light malt beer smell that nonetheless I can easily detect when opened. Pours golden and slightly hazy. In my small tumbler it kicks up a big spongy head. Malt with some sweetness and a slightly metallic hop signature. Somehow reminds me of regular beer back when Dad drank it. Wayyy too fizzy, in fact, bubbles bring in some harsh malt liquor type flavors. And way too fizzy for any style with English beer roots.

12oz can. Filtered copper orange color. Big sticky burnt corn and rough, husky caramel malt nose. Burnt, sticky caramel malt all over this thing. Astringent, sharp, syrupy. Ehh....

Can! Pours a medium clear amber with a 2 finger bubbly beige head that faded faster than my attention span during a Lifetime movie. Nose is caramel, toffee and light hops. Taste is sweet malt and brown sugar upfront with a mellow bitter hop finish. Light-to-medium slick mouth feel. Not bad. Not great, but serviceable.

I love ESBs, but this one kind of falls short a little. Aroma is asparin bitter hops, some barnyard and light, sweet malts. Flavor is the same but has a slight asparin bitterness at the finish. The mouthfeel is a bit watery. I like SKA stuff, and am a little let down.

Pours a clear amber with a medium foamy head that lasts a while. Sweet malt and grain aroma and flavor. Just enough hops to make the brew crisp, but not add any noticable hoppiness to the flavor. Drinkable, but not spectacular by any means.
