bitbucket (1536), Kirkland, Washington, USA Mar 31, 2008 Bomber that has been sitting in my cellar so long I have no idea who sent it. Maybe shigadeyo? Pours a clear blackish brown with a thin but lacy tan head. Sweet molasses and coffee aroma. Creamy medium body and light carbonation. Brown sugar, coffee and chocolate in the taste, joined by a bit of smoke on the finish. Nice!
BOLTZ7555 (435), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 20, 2008 Bottle pours a dark mahogany with a crimson hue. It’s nowhere near the viscosity of other highly rated porters. 1/4 inch eggshell head dissipates quickly but leaves lacing on the inside of the glass. Nice chocolate and roasted malt on the nose...inviting. Flavor also displays the chocolate and roasted malt, with a slightly bitter finish. JMFG (1086), Florida, USA Aug 5, 2008 Translucent dark brown color, thin, even white head. Nice mix of chocolate and roast on the aroma, more on the chocolately side. Thin on the taste, no real roast or chocolate, very bland. Pretty thin and not impressive beyond the aroma. Ibrew2or3 (1648), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Aug 5, 2008 Courtesy of Gunhaver. Pours deep darkness with a thin tan head. The aroma is roasty with mild burnt malts, faint nuttiness and some alcohol heat. The taste is porter-like with notes of chocolate, fruit cake, vanilla and some tasty burnt malt notes. Very nice roasty to toffee to burnt malts into the finish. Yum. gunhaver (610), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 5, 2008 Bottle, courtesy Santa. Pours a dark brownish red, with a creamy head and nice lacing. Sweet caramel nose, chocolate, roasted notes, brown sugar and some coffee. Flavor has sinuous chocolate, coffee, licorice, roasted notes. Thick body, somehow crisp and refreshing, quite drinkable. Enjoyed it. JCB (949), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 2, 2008 22oz from Whole Foods, Raleigh. Fairly substantial pour, not oily like others in the style but a somewhat clean, almost crisp brew with a handsome mahogany color, some decent carbonation, strong chocolate and toffee notes. Finish is slightly thin, but it’s a very solid brew.
