Commercial Description:
This English Special Bitter is our “Special Ale.” Special because it is one of only a handful of canned microbrews in the nation. Special because the Galena hops and pale ale malts create a crisp first sip, a hoppy tongue, and a malty sweet finish. Though “bitter” is part of the name, “better” would be a more accurate term. Fresh and lively, this canned beer suits the needs of any outdoor enthusiast. Like it says on the can: Fish, Luau, Golf, Raft, Toboggan. Ska can!

Clear amber pour. Fluffy head and moderate lace. Sweet malts on the nose. Malty with some hops. Wonder how fresh this was?

12 oz canner, pours a clear amber with a thin head. Aroma is sweet, light fruit. flavor is sweet malty and a light touch of nuttyness. Body is medium thickness, a little bit watered down. Pretty good carbonaiton for a can. Got this one at the Lighthouse Beer and Wine shop in Willmington NC.

12oz can. Poured a clear medium orange color. Head was foamy and off white with good retention and decent lacing. Aroma was of caramel, subdued steeping barley, and whole milk. Sweet on the tongue and medium bodied. Malt-dominated flavor with caramel up front followed by husky grain, biscuits, sweet cream, a touch of toffee, and some light grassy hops. Decent, but a bit on the grainy/raw barley-ish side.

12oz can purchased from Binny’s South Loop location. Clear, dark amber with medium creamy, long lasting beige head with a good amount of lacing. Aroma is sprucey with oxidized malt aromas, some citrus, biscuit and dough. Flavor is still pretty well-hopped citrus despite my feeling that this is not very fresh, pretty distinct esb biscuit and hop bitterness with some dough, medium sweet.. Medium to thin body that is a tad it watery, though it seems in-style. Overall I think that this beer is pretty instyle though I would like a fresher can just to compare.

Gold color with white head. Sweet nose with more malt than most ESBs. Flavor was sweet grain with very little hop. Almost a light body with clean finish.

Brought back from Grand Junction by Mrs. Prosqtor. Pours nice and rich, a crisp and clear amber color with a puffy white head. It’s a little sweet, and probably not hoppy enough. Decent ESB though. Might have to re-rate after my cold is gone.

pours a clear amber, fluffy white head, slight lacing. aroma of musty air and over-ripe corn. sweetish flavor, the corn sniff might be corn syrup. perfumy finish. soap and lingering perfume in the palate. the one beer to drink if you want to drink only one. not sure what the brewer was shooting for here.
