Commercial Description:
This English Special Bitter is our “Special Ale.” Special because it is one of only a handful of canned microbrews in the nation. Special because the Galena hops and pale ale malts create a crisp first sip, a hoppy tongue, and a malty sweet finish. Though “bitter” is part of the name, “better” would be a more accurate term. Fresh and lively, this canned beer suits the needs of any outdoor enthusiast. Like it says on the can: Fish, Luau, Golf, Raft, Toboggan. Ska can!

(12oz can) Lightly hazed amber body topped by a medium off-white head. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, orange, apricot. Taste is moderately sweet, bread, orange/apricot, caramel, some nutty. Light-medium body. A bit too sweet.

12oz can acquired in a trade with FlactoAlto (thanks!). Poured a medium and cloudy amber color with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, stronger pineapple, and lightly nutty. Tastes of lighter caramel, citrus, and fruity. This one was definitely fruity sweet with a light hoppiness to it.

Pours copper with a thin white head. Smells rosey and sweet. Tastes overly sweet with an earthy finish.

12oz can. Filtered copper orange color. Big sticky burnt corn and rough, husky caramel malt nose. Burnt, sticky caramel malt all over this thing. Astringent, sharp, syrupy. Ehh....

I believe this is my first ESB in a can. It pours a very pale amber body with a slight head that lingers none too long. Little of any lacing. It has a light aroma of toffee, fresh bread dough, and just a wee bit of floral hops. SKA needs to remember that a Bitter should have some bittering hops, because the flavor is practically all malt, a tired toffee and some bread dough. Just a bit of hops figure into the finish, quite dry. Drinkable.

Light amber color with a tallish, beige, head that’s rather lasting. Very grainy in aroma. Plenty of creamed corn and a touch of caramel and some floral hops in the background. Fairly thin in feel, but not overly carbonated. Some light caramel in the front. Middle is light fruity with some peach and pralines. Some generic bitterness and acidity that does not add much in either flavor or quality. Seems a bit raw.
