It’s slightly sweet and malty with a nice hoppy kick, full of piney notes. The aroma has a slight mustiness, but, it’s not to evident. Medium bodied, slightly dry and a touch warming. Looks nice and unflitered on the dark end of the amber spectrum with a gigantic head. Tastes like smoke and burnt coffee, with fewer hops that I would have thought, very interesting -- I like it - it dares to be different. Quality after taste of smoke that reminds me of the label. Would drink again. JorisPPattyn (5192), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 18, 2006 Draught Hazy orange-amber, with just a rim of yellow head, leaving unreal amounts of lace. Hops, not overpowering, with a flowery, nearly rosepetal quality. Very hoppy, hopbitter, near-metallic flavour, quite some maltbacking, but not really contributing a lot to the taste, rather the MF. Retronasal some non-sweet licorice flavour. Medium to well-bodied. Certain slickness. A reasonably good IPA, balance being still lopsided, in that I need some malt taste somewhere. Strong bitter grapefruit flavours with a good maltyness. This isn’t that different then the average northwest IPA but to me it stands out as after finishing a 750ml I still wanted more, it’s pretty tasty. BrewDad (2378), Olympia, Washington, USA

This was a dark oragne colored IPA with a white head that was every nice. Good brewing on this beer. There was a great flavor and the hops added tot he overall impression. I did get a strong flavor at the end but a deep fired fish would take care of that. A very good brew and a great time drinking. roner77 (35), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 28, 2006 This IPA poured a cloudy orange-amber with a whitish head. The lacing maintained throughout. There is a lack of any floral or pine flavors, instead the hops bring a sharp bitter taste that finish clean. In my opinion not a particularly memorable IPA, yet it was certainly drinkable and enjoyable. AlabastorJones (774), San Francisco, California, USA
