On tap at the brewery. Smooth, and a little smokey. What is disturbing is the tangy finish. Not quite like a beer gone bad, but not quite right.

[1654-20080903] Tap. Chocolate milk mocha roasted malt aroma with mild fruit and something akin to banana and vanilla ice cream. Dark brown black body with a long-lasting creamy light tan head and thick lacing. Malty roasted chocolate milk and rusty wooden poles flavour. Full body is a little bitter. Nice stout, good brew.

2008-09-03. Pitch black body with a nice creamy beige head and lacing. Palate is only slightly above average and thus light for a stout but is quite smooth. Flavour is mild initially, not a lot up front, but a pleasant bitterness grows into the finish and lingers with mild glimpses of roast and an anise kissed character that eludes me when I try and explore it further. Pretty simple but solidly drinkable too. On tap at the brewpub

Poured and retained a great head. Coffee and alcohol dominate the taste. Bitterness is perfect. Well made and a very good stout.

On draught at the brewpub. Pours flat black with a thin and filmy light brown head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt and coffee. Medium, dry body with flavors of roasted coffee, malt and hops. The finish is roasty with a light coffee and hops aftertaste. Above average overall.
