Bottle. Medium-dark brown appearance. Surprisingly shy aroma for a winter ale, with a touch of malt on the nose and, maybe just through expectation/suggestion, a touch of Christmastime spice. Flavour initially seems appetizing with pleasant malt and allspice, but further analysis reveals a majority of distasteful bitter qualities: aspirin, Campari and aspartame. No thanks

Skovlyst Julebryg is one of the best christmasbeers I’ve tasted, even though I’m not normally very fond of christmas-beertypes. Anyway, maybe the reason why I loved this beer was the fact that it is not a typically christmasbeer: It was really fruity, tasted like a wealth of forestfruits, raspberry, wild strawberry, even blackcurrant, but all attempted hidden in the common watery taste of beer, which made it all kind of boring. I think the reason why Skovlyst does this, is because otherwise this beer would not be put forward as a christmasbeer.

A part of our christmas-brew blindtest. It pours a golden-brown colour, and a medium dense head with a relatively good durability. Aroma is a mix of fresh fruits. Taste is like an orchid, with oranges, apples, pines, citrus and finishes with a fruity bitterness from the hops. Palate is standard thickness. Winner of our christmas-brew blindtest. I am a little bit confused if this beer really is that christmassy, but is sure is good. Maybe it will do better as a spring-beer?

06-NOV-2009, bottle @home. My fourth x-mas brew this eveneing - can I rate it? Clearlight brown/red colour with off-white lasting head. Funny unclean nose with that sweet charamelly ale-like nose I do not like. Also some funny "forrest" notes. Just because the brewery is placed in a forrest, you do not have to pick up every twig or leave you find and put it in the brew... Sweet charamel taste - too sweet - like many of Skovlyst ’s brews. Not impressed. x-mas spice does make an x-mas brew. Far too sweet and unclean.

Creamy head but it goes away fast. Aroma of metal. Flavor is of caramel - very boring.

Bottled (thanks hanniku!). Amber colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is toffee, some spices, pine, malts and some mild alcohol. Flavour is spicy, sweet caramel malty and also has some quite conifer wooden notes.

Bottled (BB 10/2010, alc. 7.0 %). Thanks hanniku! Deep copper brown color, steady beige head. Caramelly malty and grassy hoppy aroma, a bit nutty too. Light spicey, grassy hoppy, nutmeg, cardamon and caramelly malty flavor. Very lager-like flavourwise. Christmasy.
