coldbrewky (474), Saugerties, New York, USA Sep 30, 2007 Tap at Brewpub: Darker copper with little head and carbonation. There may have been some of the above mentioned items, but it took so damn long to get my beer I thought they may have had to go out an get some at the store. I came to my senses and realized that it was pretty busy and that the waitresses were working the patio and the dining area simultaneously. Blah. toasty, and crisp Nose is lightly nutty. Body has hints of fruit? Mouthfeel is short and hops passing in strength. A bit more malt and a skoash more hop body...not bitterness would help this good beer along to greatness. Glouglouburp (1876), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 20, 2006 (tap at brewpub) Clear copper body with a small dirty-white head. Crisp roasted malt, light fruity touch, modest dry hops presence, mild bitterness, lively carbonation. The foundation of a good Alt was there but its watery body prevented it from reaching its potential. For an Alt this was average at best but I have a soft-spot for the genre. Such a watery body, the Skytop needs a rooftop. MartinT (4241), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 7, 2006 Any first impressions?
-A film of foam floats atop the russet gown.
-Biscuity maltiness and citrusy hop leaves (of the noble kind) slowly rise towards the nostrils.
-Crisp toastiness and peachy fruitiness seep from the competent maltiness.
-Lively effervescence and watery suggestions make a quenching mouthfeel, but ultimately disappoint for my tastes in the style.
What if you dig deeper?
-Hop bitterness is floral and leafy, simple and shy.
-I don’t get the smoothness and the flavorful humility my pals had gotten last year.
-This is a decent altbier nonetheless, but I like a little more oil from my alt’s hops and a little more meat in my alt’s malts.
On tap at the brewpub. bfl13 (3), USA does not count Mar 22, 2006 On tap at the brewpub. Got a treat when I showed up during happy hour. $2.50 pints! This amber had a darker orange color with nice head that slowly diminished. Smooth over the palate with a more muted hop presence. Quite nice overall. tiggmtl (4160), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Nov 24, 2005 Fairly strong floral hops with nice bready underlying malt character to the nose. Clear amber-copper coloured body with a decent and lasting, creamy, off white head that laces. Bready malts with some pleasant fruity esters and fairly spicy, floral hops. Fair finishing bitterness. Medium light body with creamy smooth texture and moderate carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.
