Commercial Description:
Ruby red in colour, this all malt ale is brewed from a combination of roasted barley malts and English aroma hops. Smooth in taste. The hopping is generous but not bitter and has a unique flavour that has become a trademark for Sleeman.

NOTE: Known as "Sleeman Original Dark 50* Amber Ale" in the US.

Bottle. Sour milk malt aroma. Dark amber color with small head. Sour malt and light grassy hops flavor. A better than average lager.

Bottle at a friends house. Couldn’t see the color or head in the bottle. But, the aroma was sweet malt. Very sweet and heavier than I expected. Finished rather quick for such a sweet ale.

Has clear brown appearance with white head. Malty aroma is consistent with most amber ales. Taste is not well balanced and I dislike the suprising bit of hops that tales the malty flavor. Not a very good amber ale

11.5 oz bottle. Brown bottle, and at least it says what it is on the neck label. Original Dark 50* Amber Ale. Interesting malty aroma with dark fruits. Flavor is better than you would expect, with good malts, dark fruit, and some slightly spicy hops, but not much bitterness. A touch of caramel and brown sugar. Not great, but satisfying and very drinkable.

Not too bad i surpose.brown colour, brown nutmeg and sugar taste. deeper than you’d think. Lots of malts and grainy bread.

33 cl bottle, Fargo, marketed as ’Sleeman Original Dark 50* Amber Ale’ (or so ratebeer states, have tasted Original Dark awhile ago, and this is not it I do not think, will double check when next in Canada). Pours a deep amber colour, malty aroma, cereal, caramel and malt flavour. Sharp finish, lingers awhile at the back of the throat. Nothing too memorable but drinkable.

My beer of choice in Ontario (along with Steam Whistle Pilsner)...I think they put ’crack’ in the ingredients...once you drink one, it’s too easy to drink another, then another...

Marked Sleeman Original Dark 50. Pours to a moderate head, dark carmel color. Malty aroma; nothing special. Flavor is boring; not much there. Wouldn’t buy again.
