Commercial Description:
Ruby red in colour, this all malt ale is brewed from a combination of roasted barley malts and English aroma hops. Smooth in taste. The hopping is generous but not bitter and has a unique flavour that has become a trademark for Sleeman.

NOTE: Known as "Sleeman Original Dark 50* Amber Ale" in the US.

Bouteille 341ml.

Nice dark amber colour with better than average tan cap that has pretty good retention and leaves decent lacing on occasion. Ample fine effervesance. Smell isn’t really a downer because I didn’t expect anything from this brew. Lightly roasted malts, some sweetness, but there is a stink that I would not define as skunky - it’s a step up from skunky. Either way, it takes a while for any solid aroma to arise and by then your beer is gone. Needs more aroma early on to make this more enjoyable. Beer seems watered down, but the flavour is still decent. Nice malts, typical hops, icky cold coffee and some weak candy flavour - a candy that could only be given to you by your grandmother. Mouthfeel is alright but not great - one has to accept this bitter aftertaste that arises. A bit too fizzy and light bodied. Very Sleemans - if your not a fan, this beer won’t change your mind.

Very similar to Upper Canada Dark A slight malt aroma with some metallic, and ink aromas also. Flavor is harsh, and bitter, with some odd cardboard notes. yuck.

12 oz bottle. Poured a clear amber color with a one finger off white head. The aroma was sweet malt and some earthy notes. The flavor was metallic with some sweet malt. Mainly metallic.

12-2-08. Gift box shared with my brother. Pretty bad stuff. Smelled of tea and a very thin molasses. Tasted like bad honey, nut, and tea leaves. I couldnt finish it because it hurt my stomach.

Bottle. I’m not going to waste a true rating on this. . . But if you are between drinking this and any other light beer, or any other american style lager, Take this.. . it hasa nice malty character.

Pours an off-white head that descends quickly but leaves some lacing. Amber brownish body... but htat should be obvious simply by looking at the bottle. Yeast and malts in the aroma... not too bad aroma overall. Ok malty taste. Mediocre metallic finish... which is probably the worst thing about this beer. Slightly sweet though. Drinkable, but there are plenty of better beers out there, so there is really no reason to buy this exccept as another notch in your belt.
