Has a nice bit of hoppy character and amber colour. LordBeamish (144), Boozetown, Ontario, Canada Jul 31, 2006 Updated: Mar 15, 2007Golden/Orangish appearance with a nice frothy head. A tasty steam but, sadly, it is no longer being brewed. A Sleeman’s insider told me that it was not catering to the ’mainstream taste’ and has been replaced by Sleeman Original Draft. It’s too bad because this beer was packed with a variety of lovely flavours. Creemore Springs or Headstrong Lager are the closest replacements I have found so far. Goodbye to a great beer :( MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Apr 7, 2006 Bottle- A tough one to find here in London, but I am dilligent- Pours sparkling gold with a frothy white top.Fairly malty aroma, with not much else to talk about. Maybe some fruity aromas too. Pretty void of aromas other than sugary malt.Flavours are sweet watery malt, with fruity and bready flavours in the finish. Ok. Full steam ahead! iambeer (255), Ontario, Canada Nov 20, 2005 Compares nothing to Anchor, but it ain’t bad. Liked it better then other sleeman offerings AaronBradley (7), Toronto, Ontario, Canada does not count Aug 23, 2005 Horrible aroma. Horrible taste. Horrible aftertaste. So in otherwords, the entire expereince was terrible. Maybe I am just not a Steam fan, because I coudl barely stomach Steam Whistle either. pootzboy (1029), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada Jul 23, 2005 Updated: Jul 31, 2005I’m glad I had tasted a number of west coast steam beers before I got to this, as Oakes said, you’d never know what a real steam beer tasted like if this is all you had ever tasted....You’d think it was an all malt Sleeman lager with some light fruit tones and a sharper peppery-spice finish. The nose on this lager is steam-like with wisp of hop sharpmess over light malty sweetness. The beer pours with a good frothy, long-lasting cap that laces well. The amber-like color ( actually a dark gold) didn’t translate to the chewy maltier steam beers of the western states.......Sleeman made a fair commercial effort but really not enough chewy malts, spicey-fruity ale tastes , heavier body or color to classify as representative of the US style.
That said, this IS probably the best commercial beer from Sleeman..all malt and no typical "Sleeman skunk". smackie (45), St. Augustine, Florida, USA Jul 21, 2005 Tasty steam beer. I could drink a few of these if I had them. Some friends dropped by from Vancouver BC on their way back to Atlanta. They left one for me. I should of asked them to bring some Sweetwater 420 Ale from the ATL, one of my favorites!
