Commercial Description:
The "Jewel of the Coast" has a deep reddish color, full flavor, medium body and fragrant hop aroma. It's exceptionally smooth with a nice, light hop finish.

Bottle courtesy of cakanator. Pours slightly cloudy amber with a one finger tan head that faded into a small topper and left spotty lacing. The nose is caramel malt for the most part with faint earthy hops. The taste is caramel, sweet fruit and toffee. No hops. Medium bodied. OK Amber, too sweet for me though.

Bottle; amber in color, shockingly. Aroma of caramel and bread; sweet, not much hop presence. Flavor was mostly caramel and fairly sweet. Perhaps some bread/yeast/nuts. Actually it was pretty tasty for the style.

Amber beer with an off-white head. Aroma is caramel with no appreciable hop aroma. Flavor is caramel with a bit of acid. Honestly, tough to describe. Not a favorite but okay.

quiet poor; amber-copper body with little white head; cheesy, caramel aroma, subtle floral notes, but mostly caramel; thickish palate; caramel, yeasty flavor; meh--though definitely an amber.

Deep amber coloured body with a thinnish white head. Aroma of malt, toffee, nuts and a tiny bit of alcohol. Medium-bodied; Strong nuttiness in the taste with some malt and pit fruit flavours strong in the front. Aftertaste shows some blandness with some light yeast and nuts and just about nothing else. Overall, a decent amber, but definitely nothing special. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from BevMo in Caramel Valley (San Diego), California.

Had this beer on 4/13/1998. Color is a golden brown with good carbonation and a light head. Aroma is a sweet malt scent. Taste comes on a rich body with a creamy malt taste and a mild hop bitterness. It starts with a good creamy feel and goes down smooth. The finish comes though that malt taste with a mild hop bitterness that grows as you sit.

On tap at a local restaurant. Golden amber color with a fizzy white head. Sweet malty aroma and taste with some bready notes. A fairly basic and one dimensional beer.

Paso Robles location. Amber color...nose was lacking any real malt or hops. Thin body and very little overall taste. Slick on the finish.
