Ungstrup (11378), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 14, 2003 A black beer with a fine light brown head. The aroma is slightly smoked and sweet - too sweet for a stout. The flavor is smoked, sweet from a good maltblend, and slightly bitter. It is not stouty enough - I was a little disappointed. omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 18, 2003 Updated: Jun 11, 2004Re-rate bottled.
Dark black with brown head. More mature than when I first tried it. Some fruitiness up front, then loads of coffee and licorice. The malt profile is still kind of simpistic though.
Sampled the pre-release draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm.
Dark black with brief beige head. Rich chocolate aroma. Full bodied and rather sweet, but not very firm. Big on licorice flavour with an odd note of plastic. Molasses and salt in the finish. (7/4/6/3/12) Papsoe (10359), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 27, 2005 Updated: Jun 3, 2006(Bottle 33 cl) Almost black beer albeit a slight reddish note. Thick, brown licorice-like head. Extremely full-bodied with a dry, burned mouthfeel and a pronounced bitterness probably mainly originating in the black malts. Very complex flavour-patterns and an impressingly, warming alcohol. Very sophisticated beer to be enjoyed in small doses. 021004 Oakes (6978), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 4, 2004 Black, with a medium brown head. Aroma is coffeeish, chocolatey. Sweet start - vanilla sugar in your Blue Mountain. Roast comes in, bringing bitterness and a slight acidic note. Rounded body and full mouthfeel. Flavour tapers off a little, but remains rounded, roasty, nutty and dry. joergen (6529), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 3, 2005 Black colour with small brown head. Aroma of nuts, dried fruit and a bit smoke. Sweet flavour with notes of nuts and chocolate, well balanced bitteness. The alcohol is well hidden, and though the high alcohol volume, its still very drinkable.
Excellent stout.
