Aroma of dark fruits (cherries, berries), candy sugar, yeast, and caramel. Tart cherry taste, some yeast, sweet malts, and light alcohol comes through as pepper. Round mouthfeel. eaglefan538 (2405), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2007 On tap at the Blind Tiger in NYC. The pour was slightly murky-ish red-brown to orange, decent initial head, lacing nice too. Aroma was spices, dough, some light floral notes. The flavor followed, nice yeasty bready touch, finishing with a touch of bitterness, spices present with some zesty zing, other fruits, dark and light perhaps. Caramel and chocolate also underneath it all. The mouthfeel was moderate, pretty nice for the style, could have used some nutty notes along with the rest of the beer, pretty good stuff. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Dec 28, 2004 Updated: Dec 28, 2005Draught @ Sly Fox: This one poured a clear, yet almost opaque brown color. Tinges of red in there too. There was no head to it at all, with very little carbonation. No lacing at all. The aroma is a somewhat sweet caramel malt nose Some dark fruits. Also somewhat spicy. The taste is similar to the aroma. Last year’s was a bit overly sweet, but I didn’t find that in this year’s version. Very Nice. goldtwins (4086), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2007 Poured a very deep red brown color with a small beige head. The aroma was mildly sweet with some dark fruit and tobacco. Some doughy notes. The flavor is a little eastery and earthy with chocolate on the tail. Light hoppy finish. Semi-dry with a medium body and some warmth in the throat. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 25, 2007 Draught at Royersford. Clear, ruby-brown body with a velvety beige head. Dark caramelized aroma with notes of bread crusts, cocoa, light rubbery clove-like phenols, and an element of cooked bananas. Moderately sweet flavor with some toasty edges and modest bitterness. Has some lingering raisin flavors, but not a great deal of depth otherwise. Still, this is a solid American dubbel overall.
