Commercial Description:
Ahtanum has the citrusy character one would expect from an American hop, but also some of the woody, tannic notes of classic British hops. 16.5 OG 100(?) IBUs

On tap at the Sly Fox Brew Pub. Poured a darker orange color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of mainly oranges with some citrus. Tastes of oranges with a grapefruit finish. Medium bitter with nice lacing left on the glass.

Hand bottled from a growler: Pours a clear deep mahogany with a thin, whispy, nicely-lacing cream-colored head. Has a nIce fresh piney, hoppy aroma with good toasty and lightly sweet caramel malt. Body starts full and malty with good carbonation throughout leading to a bittersweet, crisp, dry, and well-hopped finish. A nicely brewed, enjoyable IPA. Not as assertive as some other types of hops, but Ahtanum taste pretty good. Many thanks to richlikebeer for the sample!

This may be my favorite of the Sly Fox IPAs. The Ahtanum hop doesn’t smack you over the head, and it is on the dry side, but the balance and complexity was through the roof on this one. It is a tad darker than the others I’ve had. Just excellent.

Poured a deep copper color with a small, off white head that left spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of pine, lots of floral and citrus hops, light maltiness. Big grassy flavor, various citrus fruits, caramel malts, bitter grapefruit finish. Very refined, one of my favorite Sly Fox IPAs.

IPA night. Somewhat similar to the cascade and centennial IPAs from last year- lots of citrus with a good balance of pine and jsut a hint of minty qualities. This was pretty good overall, but I think because it was the 2nd IPA of the year- it had lost some of its freshness.

I generally like the Sly Fox brews. This one was too dry and piney for my tastes buds. Had it on tap at the Royersford location.

Draught at Pheonixville: Sweet with carmel and honeysuckle as well as a little citrus and pine in the nose. Color is orange. Sparkling, with frothy, white, foamy head. Tastes of wood, citrus and some pine. Interesting flavor. VERY dry, which I love. Not the best of their IPAs, but one of the dryest!
