Tap @ brewery. Clear copper with medium sized. head. I always get excited when I see a scotch ale on tap at a brewpub and this time was no exception. Taste is malty but the body is way too thin. Flavor has a slight toastiness but no real peat flavor. Worth taking a pass on this one and trying one of their better offerings.

On tap at the Sly Fox in Royersford. Poured a darker brown color with a small off white head. Earthy aroma and tastes. Light caramel. Kind of a fizzy body that I didn’t like too much.

On draft at Johnny Brenda’s. I really enjoy rich Scottish Ales, but this wasn’t one of them. More along the lines of a well made, but forgettable, british bitter.

Sample at the brewpub. Clear medium copper, malty nose, fairly dry and earthy, not very exciting and a bit watery. Little to say here; this was a disappointment after several excellent samples.

Barley and rye flavors with bitter tangy hops (Saaz?) Very balanced but hoppier than most Scottish ales I’ve had. Chewy, bready, more flavorful and less sweet than others in the style. Lasting malt finish.

Pours dark amber with good head and lacing. Tastes malty, with some cognac, slight hops, and some roasty flavor. As with all SF beers, this one is well balanced.

Dark brown with a thick tan head. A malty base with a pronounced smokiness and a bit of bitterness to boot. Not bad, but the smokiness was a bit distracting for me.
