RPillsbury (112), Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England Apr 11, 2008 Updated: Apr 15, 2008Draught at Barcade, Brooklyn, New York. Unfortunately the bar ran out of this beer in mid-pour and I only got about a quarter of a pint. Still, the bit that I had was very good. It was complex and well-balanced with a nice bitter finish. There was a hint of toffee in it as well. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Apr 8, 2008 Tap at Barcade. Clear amber beer, thin white head. Aroma is lightly spicy and toasty. A kiss of caramel as well. Falvour is decent. Soft caramelly maltiness and a very persistent lingering bready character on the back as well. Seems fairly hoppy for the style. As it warms, the hops fade and there is just a nice nutty/caramelly maltiness. A kiss of apple fruitiness and maybe a bit of berry as well. Some faint spiciness along with a bit of citrus on the back. The malts aren’t exactly right with an obviously North American malts rather than European ones, but it’s still pretty nice. jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 19, 2007 Hand Bottle. Thank to TomDecapolis for opening this up. Pours a dark amber body with thin head. aroma is hoppy, candy like, malty. Flavor is malty, candy, even more maltiness, semi sweet. Aroma was real malty and rich . Malty and sweet but not really a lot of belgian notes to this. Rich and pretty tastey actually over all. nolankowal (850), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 19, 2007 Hand-bottle shared by sliffy. Orange-red pour with a white head. Aroma of smokey-roasted malts, light dark fruits and vanilla. Flavors of smokey malt, vanilla and a light fruitiness. Medium bodied with a soft carbonation...roasty/sweet finish. sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 18, 2007 Hand bottle from dickinsonbeer: Pours a clear dark copper with an off white head. Aroma, caramel and brown sugar, some earthy notes. Flavor, caramel, some yeasty notes, and fruits, earthy, and some faint spicing. Schroppfy (1810), Ohio, USA Apr 28, 2007 Hand bottled via dickinsonbeer. Iron and earth abound in this great malty Biere de Garde. A bit vegetal, a bit of battery on the tongue tingliness. Soft aroma of flowers, buttered bread, barley. Alcohol is a little hot, otherwise a fantastic interpretation.
