Commercial Description:
A special, one-time brew by guest brewer Scott Morrison, Dude de Garde is a classic Flemish farmhouse ale similar to a Saison, but often somewhat stronger and more flavorful. Biere de Garde's were the beers of the farmhands and Morrison's interpretation, brewed this time with Sly Fox brewmaster Brian O'Reilly, was considered one of the area's finest when he was brewing at McKenzie Brewhouse. 16.5 OG 20IBUs

On tap at the Phoenixville location. Poured a deep orange color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, cherries and I was getting light roast and smoke. Tastes of caramel, cherries, orange peels and a little fruity. Medium alcohol burn. Nice...

Tap at Barcade. Clear amber beer, thin white head. Aroma is lightly spicy and toasty. A kiss of caramel as well. Falvour is decent. Soft caramelly maltiness and a very persistent lingering bready character on the back as well. Seems fairly hoppy for the style. As it warms, the hops fade and there is just a nice nutty/caramelly maltiness. A kiss of apple fruitiness and maybe a bit of berry as well. Some faint spiciness along with a bit of citrus on the back. The malts aren’t exactly right with an obviously North American malts rather than European ones, but it’s still pretty nice.

Draft at P-ville. Deep coppery pour with 1-finger or so off-white head that didn’t stay around long. The aroma was caramel malty, somewhat fruity, with slight candi sugar and floral hints. The taste was caramel malty, on the dry side, with floral and spicy notes coupled with some fruit hints and some honeyish notes.

Poured a clear, dark amber color with a small, light tan head that left faint lacing on the glass. Aroma of nuts, floral hops, light spices, clove, toffee, and cherries. Taste was earthy, toasty, some caramel, dry, bitter, faint metal, black cherry, and moderate alcohol in the finish. Chewy mouthfeel, yet bone dry. I hope there is a way to try this in about 6 months, I love that Bavay!

On tap at Phoenixville. Pours a moslty clear medium amber with a thin whitish gray head. Aroma is toasty, buscuit malts, belgian aromatic, light roast, and sweet malts with a light rustic earthy and herbal hint. Light caramel malt flavor with more toasty and buscuity malts, sharp dark crystal note and more earth- slightly off- metallic bitterness. Ok mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Goes down pretty smooth. I prefer the Bavay, and even the Mckenzie farmhouse to this.

On tap at the Phoenixville location. Pours a translucent golden amber with a medium off white lacing head. Aroma of grainy malts, citrus, some spices, toasted malts and some floral/perfume hops. Flavor had lots of up front hop bitterness which i was not expecting at first. Grainy, toasted malts, some banana and citrus and very dry.

Draught: Sweet aroma. Smelled fruity, and also of floral hops. Poured amber in color, with a medium, off-white head that lasted throughout. Good lacing. Clear. Not sparkling. Flavor was moderately sweet and bitter. Initially it was hoppy and floral with notes of citrus fruits. Then it became malty, with notes of roasting and coffee. Very well balanced. Light to medium body. Average carbonation. Short bitter finish. Overall, interesting and tasty.

Sly Fox Phoenixville. Clear, warm-metallic golden-amber body with an ample pale head. Aromatic malty flavor with rich notes of fruit, nuts and caramel, plus light yeasty highlights. Prominently sweet in the flavor with well-integrated Munich malt signatures and notes of lightly toasted bread crusts. Moderately strong hop bitterness. Comes together very smoothly. I dig the dude’s beer.
