In short: A fruity (dark fruits) hard-candy in a bottle. Below average for the style.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed when about 6 to 8 months of age
The look: Dark mahogany body topped by a very small off-white ring of foam.
In long: Nose of sugary hard-candy. Taste blends toffee and grapes in a weird way. Ends-up feeling fake, like an artificial flavour or something. Other dark fruits show up such as prunes, figs and friends. Candied fruits is the dominant flavour here. Hops are for the most part discreet (to say the least). Moderate sweetness level, less sweet than average for the style. This one totally lacks the rich body of the good scotch ales. Like riding a bicycle without a seat this beer is not something I regret trying but will only try again if no other more satisfying option is available.

Darker borwn color with a medium head. Aroma is very grainy and malty with some cereal and caramel. Flavor has some light hops, cereal and bread, and a mildly sweet taste. Lighter feel. Not bad, but kinda mediocre.

From the tap poured brown with a fair amount of head. Nice toasted malty/sweet flavor with a lingering finish.

Draft at the Beechtree. Pours a clear ruby brown with a mocha tan head. Light lacing. Toasty malt and smoke on the nose. More smoke and malt in the mouth with a medium body. Light hoppy finish.

Reddish color with a nice head. Mostly malt in the flavor and aroma. Very nice and warming on the throat. Very good winter beer.

pours a deep brown with ruby hues. thin head is light tan...minimal retention and minimal lacing. very malty aroma is sweet with a touch of spiciness and notes of caramel and subtle dark fruit...maybe prune? flavor is of roasty malt and some spice with a touch of peat. fairly silky mouthfeel with lots of CO2 action and a lingering roasty finish.

22 ounce bottle split in pint glass. Dark reddish brown with lasting flat head. Toasted caramel port earth with maybe a hint of peaty grassiness aroma. Toasted brown sugar ripe cherry port sweet fruitiness with mildly bitter grassy finish and slight lingering bitterness. Medium-full body and medium-low carbo. Pretty good example of the style, complex and tasty.

Brown colored liquid with orange high-lights when held to the light. Thin beige, fizzy head that dissipates to a ring around the glass. Solid aroma with dark caramel, mild peat, and a bit of apricot. Sweet start with a bit of slightly burnt toffee. Quite light and almost airy in feel. Slight peat and alcohol add up to a mild bourbon flavors. Touch of tobacco and some medicinal flavors in the finish. Linger is faint with toasted malt and peat. Very nice, but the feel is thin, perhaps this one fermented a bit further than expected.
