Bomber. Richly malty nose, sweetish grape and brown sugar with a hint of smoky peat and a contribution from the yeast. Clear but dark ruby pour with medium-strong carbonation and a rich, creamy tanned head. Taste is lightly smoked with some campfire wood, dulled fruity malt with low residual sugariness, dark caramel, toffee, and peat toward the end and into the dry aftertaste. Syrupy lightish-medium body. Tasty; not exceptional for style but enjoyable overall.

THOUGHTS: Finally a Sly Fox I really liked. I know people who swear by them, but I just don’t usually get it. But I did with this one. I’t not great, but really nice. A very nice Scotch ale. Flavor is nice but drops off a lot in the finish. It’s sort of like Skullsplitter, but not quite as good. I like the smokiness because it isn’t overpowering, but I wish it wasn’t there to be truer to the original Scottish style. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark, brownish red with a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was moderate to heavy caramel malt, apple, cherry and slight smoke. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was heavily sweet, lightly acidic and moderately bitter with an average duration. There was lots of caramel malt with a little smoke to it and some apple and cherry with a little smokey bitterness at the end. The medium body was sort of syrupy then dry with fizzy carbonation and a light astringent, light alcoholic and metallic finish.

Thin head which dissappeared really quickly. Minimal carbonation. Soft peat and sickly sweet aroma with some dark fruit and molasses. Kind of lies there lifeless. Dark ruby brown in color. Malty flavor with a hint of smoke. Sticky palate although this brew is getting better as it warms. Some nutty overtones and a bit of plums. Finishes pasty and earthy. An ok scotch ale.

Appearance: Pours a dark, reddish-brown body with a teeny, tiny, whiteish head. Smell: Plums! Lesser notes of dark, nutty malts and peat. But mostly: plums! Taste: Dark malts with a slight nuttiness and a medium sweetness. Taste of plums. No real hop character or bitterness. Slight smokey peat. Sweetish, fruity finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: No thanks. A bit of a letdown overall.

Clear a transparent amber ruby with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel smoky peat and a touch of light fruity esters. Starts with good fullness and malty sweetness. Finishes slightly drier and warming with some peppery smoky character. A pretty decent Scotch ale.
