Aroma is very sharp with harsh dark crystal or special b malts, but also a very fake sugary sweetness- kinda like splenda, but also like a dark grape sugary canrdy- maybe a red smartie and a grape spree aroma going on- yeah deifnite grapiness goin on- grape soda even- probably the first I have ever smelled this characcter in a beer. Flavor is simlar- I get grapesode and cola- if you mixed them- more artificial sweetneers and rediculous candies like smarties and maybe those runts candies- some more hsarp dark stewed malts. Light carbonation, but stil a sharpness in there to throw things off. i used to drink this on tap and thought it to be a decent to good scotch ale- now that it is bottled, it is pretty messed up and not very enjoyable. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2008 A highlanders malt paradise. Thick bodied, this beer pours a deep red brown with a smallish quickly recening tan head. The aroma mild molasses and strong sweet maltiness, but lacks some of the peatiness associated with the style. Flavor is much the same. Slick mouthfeel with a sweet short finish. Easily drinkable and dangerous at 7.5% Strap on yer kilt!
