22 oz bottle. Deep reddish brown in color wirth a light tan head. Aroma: very peaty, with alot of smoke, and sweet caramel malts. Taste is alot of caramel, and peat smoked malt- but they don’t seem to mesh well on this one. Seems like the peat might overpower the traditional malts just a bit- pretty nice overall though.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Dark amber orange coloured beer with a creamy beige head. Sweet malty aroma. Caramel and toffee with a kiss of toasted nuts and rich worty malts. A bit of earthiness and lingering light molasses. Low bitterness, low fruitiness with maybe just a hint of orange peel and a lingering caramelly sweetness. As it warms a bit of licorice comes forward. A nice, cold-weather beer.

Bottle. Dark brown, with an off white head. malt, caramel, smoke, and a little bit of fruit. Flavor is caramel, smoke, and malt. Body’s a bit thin, and more of a malt presence is need. Still, pretty good.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a deep brown with some reddish highlights when held against a light. Moderate linen white head that faded to a ring after about a quarter of the glass. Pleasant aroma of caramel and peat typical in a scotch ale. The flavor is light peat, caramel and a bit of smokiness, but they are all a bit light and don’t quite pull it off. An alcohol flavor kicks in midway firther disrupting things. The mouthfeel is light for a scotch ale and is missing that rich malty texture.

Draft Royerford location. Dark amber with small white head. Aroma was of caramel, light peat, and smoke. The taste was the same with nice roasted flavor. Sweet and medium bodied. Better than I thought it would be.

Draught and Firkin at Phoenixville: Aroma of malt, salt, and sourdough pretzel. Poured copper/amber in color with a small tan head that diminished quickly. Hazy. Very lightly sparkling. Ok lacing. Flavor was neither sweet nor bitter. Tastes of malt, salt, and sourdough. Medium body. Thin, slightly oily texture. Soft carbonation. Salty, malty finish. As if someone put a pretzel and some alcohol in a blender. Yummy.

Tap at barcade - starts out promising, with a very dark purple, heady pour, and a full aroma of peaty, scotch ale goodness - however, the body is far too thin - the caramel, vanilla, smoked malt and dark fruits are all there, but they just don’t interact in the right ways, as if the various elements af the beer are at war with one another, rather than coming together in the harmonious way that they should - all fight for control, but none win out, leaving a flabby beer that doesn’t satisfy on the palate.
