Commercial Description:
Grisette is a a Belgian farmhouse ale which was originally brewed in the Hainaut Province to be the beer of the miners in the area, just as Saison was the beer of the farmers. It was lighter than saison and frequently contained wheat as well as barley malt (as does the Sly Fox version). The name is derived from the French word for grey, referring to the young women (the grisettes) who doled out pints as the men exited from the mines while still dressed in their grey factory frocks. The style is nearly extinct and will be an interesting addition to the adventuresome and ever-growing Sly Fox portfolio.

Pours gold with a nice white frothy head. Smells earthy with some fruity hints. Tastes spicy and dry with a nice wildflower hint on the finish.

On draft at the GL. Pours a cloudy yellow gold with a medium sized white head. Aroma of bitter lemon honey hops, pepper and fresh yeast. Taste is slightly bitter with hints of lemon honey, grass notes, pepper and hops. Refreshing.

tradtional ale is an unsatasfying name Put it in with the saisons or something all togtlether different. Belgian spice and a massive citrus presence with no pith. Refreshing and drinkable with a nicely diverse grain bill.

Nov. 2006 - Pale yellow pour, very little head or lacing. Aroma was that of pears and apple. Flavor was fruity and spicy with just a touch of barnyard funk. Spices and pepper also prevalent. Fullness of flavor and mouthfeel improved as it warmed, but the beer got yet sweeter. An okay attempt.

On tap - Capone’s - Norristown PA - bright clear yellow gold in color with a bright white head. Mild spiced aroma. Very crisp and very dry mouthfeel. Flavor is similar to a wit with a lemon in it. Would be a great summer beer.

Draught at Barcade. (I can’t believe how sucky I am now at "Asteroids" over all these years...) Slightly hazy gold color with a thin head. Bready, doughy aroma wth some banana yeast. Bready, sour (green apple/lemon) and bitter hop notes permeate what’s like a "raw pretzel" malt flavor. Kind of an underlying phenolic note. Thin and a bit fizzy in palate. Can’t say I loved it, but interesting.

Draft at Barcade. I remember there being a good amount of carbonation in this one. Some citrus and earthy malt in the aroma. Pretty standard earthy malt flavor with a sour / tart finish.
