matt7215 (540), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Aug 17, 2008 750ml bottle from premier gourmet. i really dont understand the low ratings on this one. it is a very good example of the style in my opinion and i can find no major faults. its right up there with DFH Fort for all time most underrated brews. enough ranting about other peoples ratings now its time for mine. pours deep brown with a solid tan head that laces the glass nicely. (4/5, not murky enough, not a big enough head for the style). aromas are of dark fruits and yeast but there is definantly a chocolate malt element in play here as well. (9/10, roasted malts show more then the candi sugar and yeast, also the yeast isnt trappist). flavours are typical of the style and while they are very good they lack the complexity and depth of the real standout abt/quads. overall id say that this is a damn fine atempt at a very intimidating style that was very close to being pulled off by this american brewer. the things i can suggest to make it better would be: different yeast with les filtration, less roasted malts and more candi sugar. good work sly fox! thanks for making this brew! uhre (231), Denmark Aug 2, 2008 tiny head, colour is brown with a red tone. Aroma of yeat and dark fruit - sweet aroma. The flavor is of dark fruit, alcohol and yeast. KimJohansen (3026), Copenhagen V, Denmark Jul 31, 2008 Clear brown with with tiny short lasting head. Sweet vinous aroma with overripe fruits, caramel and roasted malt. Sweet flavor with overripe fruits, caramel and roasted malt leading to a sweet finish with warming alcohol. Papsoe (9980), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 31, 2008 (Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of goryshkewych. Pours a clear warm reddish brown with an off-white head. Sweetish aroma of overripe fruit, sherry and yeast. Quite full-bodied with plenty of overripe fruit and a little yeastiness. Also a little low in carbonation. Very subdued bitterness - if any. 260708 yespr (6162), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jul 27, 2008 From bottle #23 at sk8vikings American blind tasting. Pours almost clear and golden brown with no lasting head. Spiced and dense caramel malty aroma. Flavour is sweet and fruity, light yeasty. Warming alcohol and light spiced. Fruity lingering finish. Smooth yet also spiced sharpness. Complex and flavourful.
