axilla (942), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA May 24, 2006 06 Goat Races. Pour was a medim/full bodied dark brown color with a frothy, beige head. The aroma was toffe, carmel, maple syrup, brown sugar...very sweet. The flavors were a lot like the nose mixed in with lots of raisins. By far, my favorite of the two eis-bocks. kramer (1875), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2006 On tap, Sly Fox Goat Race 2006, served in approx. 5oz wine glass. Poured a dark brown with a one finger creamy light brown head. Nice retention on the head for such a high ABV beer. Aroma was very thick and almost syrupy smelling with lots of caramel and toffee and to a lesser extent alcohol, nuttiness, and light fruitiness. Flavor is of caramel and toffee up front with a very warming finish. While very warming in the throat, there is really not much alcohol flavor though to their credit. Mouthfeel is thick, very smooth, and with minimal fine carbonation. Overall, very good, and the better of the two Eisbocks pouring at the event. On a side note, the little bit of this that spilled on my hand left it very sticky for about an hour, almost like homebrew wort. This stuff was certainly full of malt. weeare138 (924), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA May 8, 2006 On draft at the ’06 goat race...
Appears a dark roasted black color with a creamy tan head that slowly fades into a small 1 finger cap and never drops off. Tons of scattered lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of cocoa, mild caramel, with some faint earth notes, along with some roasted nuts, molasses, and sticky raisins.
Taste is of the same aromas. Lots of complex flavors melding together to make a supreme doppelbock.
The mouthfeel is slightly sweet with creamy notes and only a very small trace of the abv content.
This was the best version of this that I remember having and I’ve been to all of the goat races with the exception of the New Road one.
TomDecapolis (2419), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA May 7, 2006 Updated: May 8, 2006On tap at the Phoenixville location for the 2006 Goat Races. Pours a dark brown with some ruby red when held to the light. Creamy lighter tan head that left great lacing. Very nice looking beer. Aroma of dark fruits, molasses, caramel, sweet maltiness, I really just loved how the malts came through in the aroma on this one. Flavor of roasted malts, coffee, sweet maltiness, light alcohol burn and some candy sweetness. Slight alcohol. chronictonic (351), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 13, 2005 on tap at graylodge pub Ice Ice Bocky night. Dark brown color, sweet malt aromas with hints of molasses. A complex flavor mixing malts, dark dried fruits, a bit of chocolate and some alcohol. Between this and the Helles Eisbock I preferred teh Helles and my wife preferred this.
