Ernest (4216), Boulder, Colorado, USA Nov 1, 2007 Can. Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), moderately to heavily hoppy (flowers, herbs), with notes of lemon and orange peel, honey. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. The 3.4 average here is ridiculous, but not surprising. I had it at GABF for the first time this year and from the first whiff I knew I had to have more. I traded and got six cans. I’m going to be out of cans before a week passes (this is my second already). This is easily one of the best German-style pilsners that I’ve ever had. And yet it’s very authentic, not an American revision. Incredibly clean, vibrant, wonderfully balanced, great appearance. There isn’t a single thing about it that’s not to love. Unless you don’t like pilsners, of course. The quality and authenticity of some of these Sly Fox brews (e.g., Saison Vos) is just jaw-dropping.
after4ever (1710), Brier, Washington, USA Aug 27, 2008 12-oz can. Thanks, Em! Pours cloudy bright gold, light fizzy white head. Slightly cardboardy, slightly brown appley nose. This was shipped in summer, but even the light oxidation isn’t unpleasant--could still drink the hell out of this beer even if it always smelled like this. Fizzy medium body, big biscuit, resin, and grassy mid-palate. Fizzy. Crisp-ish finish, despite being a bit maltier than you might expect. Killer stuff. ucusty (1015), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 26, 2008 Gold fizzy pour. Citrus and straw on the nose. The flavor had way more hop flavor than I expected! Dry citrusy finish Monger (454), Roscoe, Illinois, USA Aug 17, 2008 12oz can. Pours a golden color with a nice long lasting white head. Aroma of citrus, malt and floral hops. Taste is light spice, grassy hops and herbs. Has a semi bitter, lemony dry finish. An excellent pilsner! Ron (737), Rochester, New York, USA Aug 16, 2008 2008 Flour City Brew Fest. Started off sweet and crisp. A little too hoppy at the ending for me. That hop type was not for me. kmeves (989), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Aug 15, 2008 Pours a slightly hazy pale yellow with a full white head. Aroma is medium sweet, grassy and citrus. Flavor is grassy, herbal, lemon and nice bitterness. Light bodied, slick texture.
