Appearance: Deep amber color with a creamy, off-white head. Nice head retention and decent lacing.
Aroma: Malty nose with notes of biscuit, caramel, and a bit of grain.
Flavor: Sweet malt notes, a bit of caramel, toast, and a bit of an earthy metallic note.
Palate: Medium-low carbonation with a medium mouthfeel and a medium-short, sweet finish.
Overall: A solid go to if there is nothing better. It won’t wow you, but it rarely disappoints either. Take it or leave it.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2009 Dark brown color but relatively close to black. Has a sweeter malts aroma with some roasty and barley undertones. Flavor is pretty much full of sweeter malts and barley. Leaves a subtle malt aftertaste. This is a good brew to start off a night. | 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 5/20 | Dec 10, 2009 This is just one of those flat Irish beers, watery, foamy. Tasted like apple. Not much else. What’s funy is the bartender was out of Chimay and suggested Smithwick’s instead, saying, "If you like Chimay, you should try this." I did, but only to humor him. If you like ales like Guinness, Murphy, or Boddington’s, you should try this, that’s what I say. Travlr (771), Washington, Washington DC, USA

Aroma of butterscotch and malt, slight pepper in the background.
Tastes of scotch, malt and caramel.
Medium body.
Not a bad beer, easy to drink. DeanF (317), Paris, France
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 22, 2009 Smells of barley and grain, very little head but I don’t think it’s intended to have much. Tastes very good, very thirst quenching - my glass disappeared quickly. A very good session beer. grandet (486), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Draught. At Fionn MacCool’s. Deep clear copper, average off-white head. Somewhat sweet, vaguely floral and nutty aroma, a touch earthy. Tasted a bit syrupy, but not too sweet, the bitterness was just enough to make it pleasant. Average, slightly sticky mouthfeel, decent carbonation, a quick finish to the mostly-malt --- pretty solid with the fish and chips I was eating. oOJUXEOo (36), Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Pours a beautiful copper/amber. with a nice amber head. Taste is very smooth and is a very good option where available for a full flavor beer. Not highly hopped, easy to drink, a very good Irish Ale.
