Commercial Description:
A hoppy, dry ale featuring a fantastic bouquet of Cascade hops in the nose. Deep gold in color with a tight, snow white head and pronounced hop flavor. Extensive "dry hopping imparts a strong hop aroma from the essential oils without imparting excessive bitterness.

With the departure of GABF multi-medal-winning Ron Downer and his Rocky River Brewing Company from the local scene a few years ago, the burden of good beermaking has fallen to Marty Velas of the Calhouns restaurant family. Marty is no slouch himself, and produces (with the help of some excellent assistant brewers) his own collection of world-class ales and lagers. The Appalachian is my personal favorite and regular quaff. Wonderful nose, aggressive hop character, but with a delicate malt balance. This is one of the three or four best pale ales I’ve ever tasted. Cheers!

Sampled at the Smoky Mountain Brewery in Gatlinburg. A very nice and hoppy pale ale. Deep gold color. One of the better American Ales I have had.

Pours a clear burned orange with a finger of white head. Laces very well. I smell a burst of hops, citrusy and rindy. Taste is a light brew but strong on bittering hops for a pale ale (which I loved)with a nice malty backbone. Great mouthfeel and carbonation and oustanding drinkability. Had 3 $3 liters of this beauty during monday night football, I slept very well that night.

Copper, thin tan head. Really nice mild, clean, "fresh beer" aroma. Very bright, crisp hop flavors immediately stand out. Very resiny, piney, earthy flavor, with a long bitter aftertaste. Nice.

This pours a nice pale gold color that supports a nice head. Malt aroma behind a good, strong, floral hop forground. Starts off sweet and ends with a satisfying hoppy bitter dryness in the finish. I’d like to see this one become one of the regular offerings.

Pours a clear orange golden color with a medium white head. Aroma of cascade hops with a faint floral scent. Taste is slightly bitter with cascade hops present and a bit of a floral finish. Nice.

Pours a dirty golden brown color with a modest head of off-white. Aromas have quite a bit of Cascade goodness rising from the liquid. Freshly picked hops dusted with yellow lupulin. Ample malt base has loads of hops layered upon it. For all the hop character, when all is said and done the notes become muted and the sessionality of this beer rises dramatically.

Aromas of citrus, with nice pine, citrus, and hop flavor. Nice long bitter finish.
