[GABF, Denver Co - 2006] Deep copper color with a light head. Liked the malts and the smokiness I get from this brew. This was a great beer for eating with dinner and the beer had a great finish to it. It was a citrus and spicy. I liked this beer.

Draft from brewery. Pours a decent copper color, with a thin head. Nothing special in the appearance, the aroma had a lot of yeast and a caramel(?) like sweetness. Flavor was much like the aroma, with a mildly sweet finish.

Draught at the PF brewery. Pours red-copper with minimal off-white head. The aroma has quite a bit of biscuit, leaves, a hint of berries, and some raw grain. The flavor is biscuits and hops, with a muddy, slightly saline, finish. Not great, but then again, this isn’t one of my favorite styles.

draught. Copper pour, no head. The aroma is sweet and syrupy, maybe like maraschino "juice". The flavor is a little less sweet and quite strong of toast and dough with some flat hops throughout. The finish is a little annoying, in that it’s strangely artificially sweet, though not overpowering, and a bit corny. I am very impartial to this beer.

Mild graininess to the dark pit fruit aroma. Clear, pale copper coloured body with a low off white head that recedes rapidly to ring. Mild fruitiness in the over the top sweet flavour. Unfortunately, what malt character there is turns out to be quite grainy. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Sampled at GABF 2005.

Tap. Fruit hop aroma with a nose of caramel malt and brown sugar. Pours nut brown with an off-white head; good lacing. Hop start then caramel malt and toffee and finishes dry hop. Medium and heavy palate, a little dry.

Pours with little head. Deep, rich ebony color. Malty nose. Huge malt flavor. Sweet with raisiny-licorice flavores followed by a nice alcohol wash. Heavy in body, but largely quaffable. Worth visiting for.

This just came on tap in Knoxville at Calhoun's (at the site where it is actually brewed) . The 2004 batch must be worth a try. Although it lacked a little head, carbonation was right. (It might have started out with a head. I was at a table not the bar) Good malty aroma with just a touch of hop. Malty, but not syrupy sweet, hops very subdued as they should be in a Bock. All in all, one of the best I've had from Smoky Mountain/ Calhoun's.
