Aroma of smoke and peat in quite intense and surprising as I wasn’t expecting this. Taste is a mix between some subtle smoky malts with some sweet lightly roasted malt. Body is a bit light for the style. I almost wondered if I tasted the same beers as the other folk because I didn’t get any sourness. muenster (340), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 3, 2006 Draught from the brewery. Pours a dark black, with a tan head. Nice aroma of chocolate and some roastiness. The flavor of this beer seems to have changed sometime last year, with much more chocolate added. Quite a bit of sweetness, and thick on the palate. cewldre (268), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

I definitely tasted a bit of roasted flavor, along with chocolate and coffee. Not the best porter ever, but very good none the less. rudolf (1774), Buffalo, New York, USA

Man, this beer looks flat, but does have some light carbonation. BIG coffee aroma. Has a roasted, chocolate flavor. Dry, watery finish. This beers needs just a little more body. Not bad. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 22, 2006 12 oz. into ale stem glass, some time in 2004 (never entered the rating for some reason). Smells sweet with some very mild roastiness. Black in the glass with a fizzy, small head of beige foam that diminishes fully. The flavor is (surprisingly) very sour, the roast adding lots of acidity. Some mild dark hop flavor emerges in the middle; sweetness is at a good level all the way through. It’s like a blend of a porter with a Flemish sour or something. Unique in my experience. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 8, 2006 Thick dark brown body, nice thick/creamy tan head ring.
Aroma is a smooth, milky sweet caramel (toffee) with some odd spicy hints. That upfront toffee thing doesn’t appeal to me.
Odd grassy toffee flavor, that quickly finishes with roasted sour grass (lactic sourness) and tree bark.
Has some interesting characteristics that stick out from most other porters, but the problem is that I don’t like those characteristics. Still, its nice to see something different.
