Commercial Description:
Calhoun's Winter Warmer is available only during the cold winter months and is designed to take the chill off and replace it with a cozy glow. Seven different types of malts are used to produce this rich, creamy strong ale. In the tradition of an English style "Olde Ale". It has nutty fruity flavor notes.

Brown, Soapy head. Aroma: Raisin, spice, nuts. Flavor: Blueberries, Maple, citis hops, caramel. Mild bitter finish. I met the Brewmaster during this tasting at Calhouns in Bearden. We disagreed on the ingrediants, which points to complexity in this beer. One of his better beers in my opinion, hoping not to be biased.

Light aroma of malt and caramel. Flavors as expected were malt, caramel, a hint of alcohol, and brown sugar. It is a nice warming beer.

Ruby brown with a finger of tan head. Absent aroma, light peppery toasted malt notes. Taste is spicy, not too malty and thin. Nutmeg, cinnamon, and a drying finish.

Draft pint at Calhouns Bearden location. Copper-brown with a nice half-inch of cream that leaves some small spots of soapy lace. Aroma is faint caramel and toasted nut. Flavor is similar with a light-medium body and dryish finish. This brewery has finally made some improvements to its beers and overall lineup in recent years, and this 08-09 winter version is definitely smoother and tastier than years past.

Draught: This one pours a brownish dark amber color. Mine had very little head to it. I found the aroma to be a little thin, even after I let it warm up from its ice cold pour. I did get some spices and a bit of caramel malt to the nose. The taste came off as sweet. There was caramel malt sweetness to it, but it tasted overly sweet, almost like it had a half a spoon of sugar in it. There was a fair amount of spiciness and a hint of hops, but not near enough to cover up the sweetness. Just OK.

cloudy amber with zero head. Smells rich and Malty. Good flavor typical of winter warmer type beers. Very Malay with noticable alcohol. A little too "creamy" for me though.
