Black pour with an enormous brown head. Thick, chewy mouthfeel. Flavors are of stewed prunes, horehound, and charcoal. When you throw it down hard you can taste licorice. Somewhat grassy finish. Drinks like an imp stout, but far less bitter. vtafro (469), , New Jersey, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 7, 2009 22oz bottle thanks big time to Cletus, 2008 vintage. Pours a very dark hue with a medium creamy brown head. The instant I open this beer a aroma wafts out that instantly tells me I am in for a awesome drink. The aroma is rich roasted malts, dark fruits and cocoa- not an overwhelming nose. The flavor was excellent; instantly I get my fix for my favorite flavor; loads of rich oily dark fruits. Very nice. There is tons of toasted cocoa and light coffee as well. Silky and fruity at first, as it warmed the burnt flavors of cocoa were more prevalent. Overall, top notch. A gem. ksurkin (366), Norfolk, Virginia, USA
