Commercial Description:
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. Everything you want in a porter. Complexity and comfort all in one with semi-sweet chocolate dominating the aroma with bitter hops and dairy in their as well. Flavor is more of the same with what reminds me of a hefty wood in their to balance some sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied but very creamy and a light fizz at the end from the carbonation. Well rounded tasty brew. Thanks Smuttynose. 2009 22 oz. on recommendation from Scott at Oak Tree Buy Rite.

Draft at Brass Tap, thanks to Gillard. Poured jet black with a creamy, dense tan head leaving lots of lacing on the glass. Strong coffee and roasted malt in the nose. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel and good carbonation. Flavor is somewhat sweet with lots of coffee notes, roasted malt, and dark chocolate notes are also present. Creamy, slightly bitter finish. Good.

Flavor is so rich and chocolatey. Really, stunning and standout for smuttynose. Full on the balate with roasty alcohol finish. Excellent.

22 oz bomber. Poured a dark brownish/black body with a sticky beige head. Aroma of pudding skins, espresso, roastiness, chocolate. Flavor is similar to the aroma with chocolate and roastinesss being upfront. Palate is medium bodied with an average carbonation. Good stuff all around, solid.

22oz bottle at Coffee District. Pours dark and near black with a tan head. Nose is quite malty. Not much hops to be found. Lots of chocolate and light roast coffee. Rich full body with lots of chocolate flavor and a hint of coffee that peaks through. A very malty porter but at the same time the sweetness never becomes overbearing. This is one of the best porters I’ve had. Definitely Smutty’s best beer. Outstanding.

Bottle. Appearance: Black pour with a full, creamy head. Aroma: Sweet smell of chocolate and coffee. Flavor: Roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and some dark fruits. Palate: Full body. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. This is simply excellent. I haven’t sampled many in the category, or even from this brewery, but so far it is my favorite for both.
