41cubs (131), , New Jersey, USA Jul 26, 2009 Everything you want in a porter. Complexity and comfort all in one with semi-sweet chocolate dominating the aroma with bitter hops and dairy in their as well. Flavor is more of the same with what reminds me of a hefty wood in their to balance some sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied but very creamy and a light fizz at the end from the carbonation. Well rounded tasty brew. Thanks Smuttynose. 2009 22 oz. on recommendation from Scott at Oak Tree Buy Rite. TampaBrew (746), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 26, 2009 On tap at The Brass Tap. Pour is black with thick brown head. Nose is dark raosted grain, charred barley, strong coffee and earthy hops. Flavor is Burnt toast, smoky grain, earthiness and coffee. Nice beer. Good stuff all around, solid. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA Jul 21, 2009 22oz bottle at Coffee District. Pours dark and near black with a tan head. Nose is quite malty. Not much hops to be found. Lots of chocolate and light roast coffee. Rich full body with lots of chocolate flavor and a hint of coffee that peaks through. A very malty porter but at the same time the sweetness never becomes overbearing. This is one of the best porters I’ve had. Definitely Smutty’s best beer. Outstanding. nerdrocker101 (102), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 20, 2009 Bottle. Appearance: Black pour with a full, creamy head. Aroma: Sweet smell of chocolate and coffee. Flavor: Roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and some dark fruits. Palate: Full body. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. This is simply excellent. I haven’t sampled many in the category, or even from this brewery, but so far it is my favorite for both.
