Commercial Description:
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. Bottle. Dark brown pour, some tan head. Aroma is some sweet malt, meat, smoke, chocolate, and roasted malt. The flavor is similar, sweet chocolate malt, and some light smoke / meaty flavor in the back and finish. The carbonation was a bit too high though.

Pours dark brown with a generous light brown head. Smells of roasted malt, dark fruit, molasses, some roasted malt. Tastes sweet and chocolatey with some spice elements. More of an amped up porter than a typical Baltic porter, but nice.

22 oz bottle: Beautiful pour ... cascading tan head, settling into a soapy foam over dark black. The aroma is thick and big, smoky and chocolatey. Drinks with a thick oily complexion, the slight warming aspect the first impression. The flavor leans towards burnt chocolate, bad coffee, and a bit of ashy smokiness. Good. (#3433, 4/23/2008)

Bottle. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt, pleasant, but rather straightforward for such an ambitious brew. Flavor continued to be fairly standard, coffee notes, chocolate notes, nuttiness. Mouthfeel was very, very thick, full, and ultimately creamy. I’m a little torn on this beer, it started off for me with some clashes between the malty flavor, yeasty notes, and overall body. That said, it did grow on me to the point that disregarding my initial impressions I would rate it higher. Rambling, rambling, rambling, I’ll leave it all as is for now and hope to give it another go.

Bottle. Pours a dark black with a beautiful dark tan head that persists until the very end of the glass. Aroma of coffee and roast. Flavor of coffee, roast, chocolate, slight raisin as the beer warms. This is a thick, rich beer, very reminiscent of an imperial stout. Very creamy. Excellent.

On tap at Sputyen Duyvil. Deep dark black in color with a medium off white fluffy head. Chocolatety malty roasty aroma. Caramel toffee, nutty notes. Chocolatey hoppy malty flavor. Full bodied. Creamy and smooth palate. Nice beer. Very drinkable.

Aroma: lovely... coffee, roasted, wintery hops, chocolate fudge, earth, old wine, vinous, creamy.
Flavour: mm... dry, roasted bitterness... seems more like sourish imperial stout, nutty, full-bodied, alcoholic bitterness.
Appearance: oily black with tan head.
Palate: very decent smoothness. Crisp. Feels fat.

Vanilla, chocolate, roasty, and almost smokey aroma. Pours black with a thin tan head. Thick on the palate, hoppy, roasted malts with chocolate and vanilla flavors, with hints of smoke in the finish.
