Commercial Description:
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. Bottle. Pours a dark opaque brown with a 1/2 inch chocolatey head. Thick burnt malt, roasted, and coffee aroma. Taste was thick full flavor of coffee, roastedness and a creaminess aspect. Palate was thick and full.

Bottle. Pours black and oliy with light milk chocolate head. I knew this beer was gonna be good because I took one sip and my wife said I smell’d of alcohol. Aroma of dark fruit, chocolate and burntness. Flavor the same with sweet chalky finish. Not a bad brew here, I liked it alot. Only thing is as I go to the end of the glass the taste was straight rubbing alcohol.

Small light brown head, good retention and a nice scattered lacing. Black in color, opaque. Darkly fruity nose, hint of raisin, chocolate, cocoa with a light roastiness. Body is med/full, silky on the palate. Choco roast flavors up front, medium sweet malts, light black patent notes, notes of vanilla bean, coffee and some berry notes as well. An almost dry, roasty finish. May not be a Baltic Porter exactly to style but it,s damn tastey stuff for sure. Bottle procured @statelineliquors.

As you would suspect, this beer poured black as night with a barely there brown head. I didn’t get much out of the aroma other than sweet malts. The taste was equally dissappointing, 2-D. It tasted like chocolate and alcohol. On the same wavelength, the mouthfeel left a lot wanting. It was chalky and so thin, it gave what ought to be a big, black full-bodied beer an almost transparent taste. I would serve this beer with freshbaked chocolate chip cookies.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, cream, and a hint of hops. Poured black in color with a tiny brown head that diminished quickly. Opaque. No lacing. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, cream, alcohol, roasting, dark fruits, and a touch of hops. Medium body. Tingly chalky texture is not all that smooth. Average to lively carbonation. Sweet, alcoholic, chalky, roasted finish.

2008 bomber. Poured clear, very deep browh with a short-lived cap of dark tan head. The aroma was sweet and desserty, and I really dug that.. roasted sweeter chocolates pair with lighter-roast coffee, deeper vinous fruit, and tobacco.. there was also some licorice right at the back. The flavor had a hefty complement of burnt darker malts (semi-sweet chocolate, licorice, and coffee) along with what seemed like dry cardboardey oxidation, ash, and char.. warmer finish with a lot of coffee bitterness, charred coffee, and dark fruit.. this grew on me as the drink progressed. Heavier-bodied with higher carbonation on the palate.. charred and warm with decent balance (some boozy, sticky licorice at the very end struck me the wrong way).. overall very solid.

Strong head, poured as dark as I would expect. A little lacking in the nose, but the taste made up for that. Coffee predominates, some chocolate. A very smooth porter, the finish is quite satisfying. One of the very best I’ve had from Smutty.
