Very nicely done brew, a tad thin and milk-chocolatey on the flavor / mouthfeel, the only features that kept this from soaring on the second go-around. Yum! Bottle SL. Pour was dark brown almost black. The aroma was firm roast, strong chocolate, oats and other grains. The flavor followed the aroma, lots of robust porter notes, some faint bubblegum in the background, not sure I get all the Baltic porter notes. Mouthfeel was moderate for the style, strong roasted presence, dried up hops in the finish. Decent shot by Smutty, but not my fav of theirs. kramer (2465), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 7, 2008 22 oz bottle, via Dickinsonbeer. Pours a dark brown, almost black body with a one finger fizzy brown head that fell to a partial covering. Moderate visible carbonation. The nose is very roasty with that classic licorice note I want in a Baltic. Coffee, chocolate, char, minimal noticable hops. A little nuttiness. The flavor is much like the aroma, roasty, chocolaty, slight sweetness up front, bitter dark chocolate. Finishes with a slight burnt chalkiness that covers the sweetness well. Mouthfeel is full and creamy with nice soft carbonation. Mouthcoating lingering finish with just a little warmth. Overall, one of the best Smuttynose I’ve had, I think that they nailed this one. goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 5, 2008 Courtesy dchmela. Pours a burnt brown, with a craggy, light head. The aroma is unmistakable, roasted grains, coffee, cocoa, chocolates, even a wisp of smoke. The flavor is spot on, with the roasted malt dominating throughout, yielding slightly to allow a slight hoppy bitterness to bring this dance to a close. Kinz (2202), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA

Aroma is a great blend of coffee accented malts and dark fruits. Flavor is an almost exact match, but just exquisitely balanced, luscious, and full. This is absolutely fantastic, an amazingly good beer. dchmela (1426), Orlando, Florida, USA

Sweet, thick, chewy, chocolate malt, hoppy taste. Very easy to drink and leaves a little roasted grain on the finish. Really solid baltic porter.
