Nose of roasted barley, bitter chocolate, coffee, raisin, and hops. Upon first sip, I realized that this is one of the smoothest porters I’ve ever tasted. Oily and thick, caressing the tounge and mouth. Chewy and full bodied- this beer has so much character. Chocolate, deep roasted barley, and hops all fuse together in the perfect balance to create a true masterpiece. Beerdedone (1879), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Mar 22, 2008 Very dark brown with thick dark brown head. Chocolatey, coffeeish nose with a slight (and rather unfortunate) phenolic note. Hot, with a harsh astringent coffee bean note. Unbalanced - not enough residual sugar. More of an impy, and a crap one at that. For one of my favourite breweries and coolest beer styles, this is a huge disappointment. Holdwine (908), Beertimore, Maryland, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 22, 2008 Yikes, what a great beer! On draft and very impressvie. Burnt motor oil pour with immmediate chocolate and coffee notes boomy out above a tastey thick beige head. Cocolate and slight fruit taste with a warm and wonderful mouthfeel. Yes, there is alcohol (might be only drawback on a warm spring day), but it suits the malt quite well. deftim13 (103), California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 21, 2008 22OZ bottle. Pours dark brown almost black with ruby highlights around the edge of the glass. Head is 1 finger with tight micro bubbles. Lots of carbonation in this. Smell is chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, raison, oatmeal and sweet candy sugar. Taste is same with a hint of alcohol and light hop bite. Light smokey after taste. Carbonation is a little to high and mouthfeel suffers. Tasty but needs some age to round it out.
