PorterPounder (3131), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 12, 2009 Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - 22 oz bomber. Black coffee pour, nice creamy khaki colored head that leaves light lacing. Delectable aroma with some licorice, coffee, fresh black earth. Full-bodied flavor with strong earthy notes. Lots of fresh black dirt, some day old coffee, hints of licorice and a hint of soy sauce saltiness - but not in a bad way. Some chocolate makes its way in the back end as well. Thick, rich, creamy mouthfeel. An excellent companion for a rainy Saturday watching football. radagast83 (1272), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Sep 12, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours a pitch black, thick color, solid thick dark tan head. Aroma is malts, chocolate, notes of dried fruits. Flavor is pretty phenomenal - creamy coffee and chocolate notes, full bodied. Alcohol is slightly present, but not overwhelming. A nice beer to let warm which allows additional flavors and aromas to be released. Scouser (39), Pennsylvania, USA Sep 11, 2009 slight aroma of molasses. Dark brown, almost black with nice lacing. mild liqourice flavor that gives way to a malty molasses flavour. Over all not a bad beer. basewars (144), Albany, New York, USA Sep 11, 2009 Pours black with thick brown head which quickly dissipates. Minimal lacing. Aroma is full of raisins and chocolate. A slight bit of hops are detectable and a bit of port. Flavor is of chocolate and fruit. Plenty of coffee as well. Full bodied to say the least.
As it warms it mellows. The alcohol seems to dissipate (or maybe I’m just drunker), and the fruitier notes come forth.
Plenty happening in this one. Great beer. Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Sep 10, 2009 I drank this beer while watching my beloved alma mater Oregon lose to Boise State in the infamous game where LeGarette Blount punched a guy in the face during post-game. Oregon coach Chip Kelly is a New Hampshire native, so I figured it would be a tribute. Despite all that, this beer was still tasty as hell, very roasty with some oat, chocolate and coffee. Nice deep brown color as well. Tasty damn beer, too bad it couldn’t bring a victory. Ungstrup (14723), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 10, 2009 Bottled. A pitch black beer with an orangey-brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt, chocolate, and cittrus. The flavor is sweet and acidic from the rosted malt combined with notes of alcohol and lighter notes of soy sauce. The alcohol burns the tongue and palate. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Sep 7, 2009 Bomber sampled at Butters’ 1500 / MmmcKay’s 200 tasting. Near black pour with wispy tan head. Notes of expresso, rich milk and bitter chocolates, roasty oats, a little boozy, but not overpowering. Medium chewy creamy body. Great beer at a reasonable price is a terrific combonation in my book.
