Pours dark black with a short lived light tan head. Smell is rich, dense sticky dark fruit, soy sauce and dark chocolate. Taste is much the same with a lot of dark chocolate and some dark fruit to a lesser extent with some dry cocoa notes. Slightly full mouthfeel and normal carbonation. No sign of the ABV either. Overall, a fantastic baltic porter! FROTHINGSLOSH (2010), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA

The aroma was sweet and toasty with notes of cocoa, raisin and plum. The flavor was toasty and roasty malts, dry cocoa, moderate floral hop bitterness and interesting notes of plum, cherry, port wine, wood, coffee and bourbon. The finish was long and dry with cocoa and raisin lingering. Thick and full bodied. The alcohol was fairly well hidden. Excellent. decaturstevo (1997), decatur, Tennessee, USA

A semi sweet aroma of malt. A semi sweet beer with hints of light chocoffee. Carbonation is good and palate is full. A fine baltic porter would be un understatement. cbkschubert (1983), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

Light lacing. Has a dusty doughy chocolate, roasted malt, and ester aroma. The flavor is where this beer shines. Flavor is dark esters, chocolate, and lightly roasted malt. Very Imperial Stout like. There’s a good bit of bitterness in the finish. The flavor really lingers. Medium to full body. A really nice beer. Thanks Jason. Snojerk321 (1968), San Diego, California, USA

Pours a deep brown / black with a good sized bubbly tan head that quickly disappeared. Nose of some dark berry fruits, coffee grounds, and cocoa powder. Flavors of semi sweet chocolate, light booze on the finish, some dark cherry in the backdrop as well. hophead75 (1959), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Aroma: Chocolate, and heavily roasted malt, light hints of ash. Taste is alot of chocolate, and roasted malt with a big moderately sweet creamy body. Very smooth- finishes with some lightly acrid, bitter roasted grain. Thought this was great. beerbill (1954), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 4, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours black with a large brown head that faded to a film by mid-glass and left no lacing. The aroma was a bit odd. While I enjoyed the malt, coffee and tobacco elements, there was a very noticable aroma of isopropyl alcohol which I did not like. Thankfully, the rubbing alcohol was not in the flavor, which I enjoyed. Very malty with coffee and tobacco noted as well. Some scotch whiskey flavor emerges as the beer warms with a definite warming from the alcohol at the finish. Except for the aroma, an enjoyable beer. scraff (1942), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 19, 2008 22 oz - Dense black, tan creamy head. Rich roasted chocolate and mild coffee aromas lay upon waves of dark currants and black licorice. Notes of lightly smoked bread surface as it warmed to room temperature. Intense bittersweet chocolaty roast and coffee tones plow through deep hints of fig and caramel raisin. Full bodied with smooth soft carbonation. This easily moves to the top of my list for Smuttynose all-time favorites. A great effort that should not be missed…
