Aroma is roasted malt and dried fuit. Taste is roasted malt, toffe, caramel, small amount of hops, this beer had a little of every thing in it. Medium texture that was blended nicely together. Good beer, thanks again robert! TampaBrew (867), Tampa, Florida, USA

The appearance is an attractive deep brown/black, tan head. The flavor is chocolate, fruit, raisin, coffee, cream, light roastyness. The finish is sweet, with a bitter chocolate, and roasted coffee bittering, and a relatively small hop component, which takes a minute to surface. Nice thick, creamy mouthfeel. Excellent representation of a great style not so easy to find. BlackForestCO (828), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA

Poured a deep brown/black color with a moderate tan head that diminished to a thin layer. Aroma of chocolate malt, some caramel, light brown sugar, some moderate dark fruit (plum, grape, and fig) and a hint of yeast. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some chocolate malt and some light toffee/caramel that transitions into a moderate fruitiness (plum, red grape) that finishes smooth with some light roasted coffee. Moderate carbonation. Smooth, thick, and full on the palate. Definitely a good beer, I could use a couple of these. CheersMate1 (823), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Tried this last night; this was the best porter I have ever had! Holy crap, poured like a stout. Nice chocolate head that looks amazing. Very creamy and smooth palate. Has a lovely palate. Ah....so creamy it is great. The beer has a very pugent ash/roast/stout aroma. This beer is just insane. Can’t belive Smuttynose is offering this one. Not so much coffee, but a lot of ash and roast flavor(s). Can’t believe this porter, but very good. Nice smooth ash/stout/roast flavor that just lingers on the tongue. The alcohol is hidden well. The beer is just so smooth it is insane. Overall, if you have a chance to get this porter do not be a fool and NOT purchase it!. This beer has the best roast/ash aroma that I have ever had. Very much an amazing beer. Cheers everyone! Cybercat (817), Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 22, 2009 Aroma is strong, malty, slightly smoky and chocolaty with a hint of yeast and quite appetizing. It pours an opaque dark chocolate brown, just about sable, with a very thick, if not too persistent, tan head. Flavor is chocolaty and a little sweet with an undertone of roast coffee. Texture is thick, oily and strongly tingly so it practically dances down the pipes. Recommended!
