Commercial Description:
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. THOUGHTS: Very nice. It went down easy for something this bit. One of the better Baltic Porters I’ve had, but then again I can’t think of many bad one either. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured dark brown, that was a nearly opaque black in the glass with an average, tan head that mostly diminished. The aroma was moderate to heavy roasted malt, coffee and chocolate syrupy; along with raisin, prune, cherry, soy sauce and dark chocolate cherry cordials. The initial flavor was sweet, bitter and a little acidic; while the finish was very sweet, rather bitter and acidic with an average to almost short duration. There was chocolate syrupy, dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, prune, raisin, cherry and dark chocolate cherry cordials. The full body was oily with fizzy carbonation and a light astringent and light to moderate alcoholic finish.

On tap at Pizzeria Paradiso. Ho Lee Sheet. This beer is stupid good. Pours a super dark ruby with a thin tan head that lasts for about and hour and a half. Leaves some pretty good lacing. Aroma is black cherries, espresso, molasses, plums, chocolate covered raspberries, dates, a bit of barbecue pork. Taste is big gourmet dark chocolate ganache, molasses, maple syrup, brown sugar, Cuban espresso, vanilla extract. This is a crazy awesome beer. What a treat!

Picked this one up at Knightly. I’m originally from New Hampshire and I’m glad we now get Smutty here in Florida. The aroma shows coffee, molasses, raisins and cardboard boxes. Pours very deep dark brown that is nearly black with a thin to moderate sized foam head. Flavors are a bit roasty but also soft and creamy with strong raisin, milk chocolate, dates, coffee and marshmellow. Silky smooth, I really like how this drinks. A touch of alcohol is there that just warms this up a bit. A strong offering.

Pours motor oil black with large tan head that dissapates into a veneer. Nose of roasted barley, bitter chocolate, coffee, raisin, and hops. Upon first sip, I realized that this is one of the smoothest porters I’ve ever tasted. Oily and thick, caressing the tounge and mouth. Chewy and full bodied- this beer has so much character. Chocolate, deep roasted barley, and hops all fuse together in the perfect balance to create a true masterpiece.

This was a bomber bottle at room temperature, which is definitely the way to sample dark beers. Big brown head on this ol’ bear. Another eccentric label drawing by Smuttynose. Strong alcohol in the nose, with some sharp hops and yeast also - maybe even a touch of mold? The flavor packs a wallop, and comes in somewhere between an imperial stout and an imperial porter. It is definitely the most potent thing I have tasted out of Portsmouth - coffee, roast grains, a touch of figs and dates, and a little whiskey too. There is a strong finish, with sweetness followed by cooling hops. This brew will grab you by the collar and make you holler - and you’ll enjoy it too!

Bomber thanks to Ben from BeerAdvocate and the fantasy baseball leauge I won. Nice Baltic Porter. Pours dark brown with a generous light brown head. Smells of roasted malt, dark fruit, molasses, some roasted malt. Tastes sweet and chocolatey with some spice elements. Taste came out more after sitting for a while.

2009 bomber... pours a dark black with a quarter inch tan head... big aromas of roasted coffee and malts... medium body with some licorice and sweet malts up front while fatter and richer over the top with big coffee notes and a much deeper body... some dark fruit and raisin start to develop towards the back with a strong biting finish across the tongue... leads you to drink more and experience this again... superb Baltic Porter.

Bomber. Black, nice tan head. Big bold nose of roast, charred malts, coffee, chocolate, raisons and others. Full bodied, smooth, burnt malts, hint of smoke, expresso, lingering bitterness, dry. Damn, just a big ballsy in your face porter. Really nice as it warms past cellar.
