Commercial Description:
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. Black body, small tan head, slight lacing. Aromas of licorice, sweetness, and hops. Flavor is dark chocolate, licorice sweetness, mild roastiness, and slight smoke.

2008 edition. From a1 pt. 6 fl. oz (US) Big Bottle series. Pours a very dark brown with a brown, frothy head. Looks like a cream stout. Decent brown lacing. Aroma of cocoa and raisins. Very creamy and bold flavor, again of cocoa and raisins with an emphasis on the latter. A slightly dry finish. Leaves a little aftertaste. I like my porters on the smoked side and there is no smoked flavor here, which is why my rating is a tad lower than the curret average. Overall, a strong brew with a little punch to it.

Large bottle. One of the finest porters I have tasted. Dark black pour with a big head and lacing. In addition to the up front chocolate and espresso flavors there is also a spicy licorice thing going on underneath.

Roasted punch everywhere. This beer is perhaps the best example of an American-made strong porter. Smuttynose, the most underrated craft brewer on the east coast.

This poured black in color with a moderate brown head that dissipated away. The nose was filled with aromas of dark chocolate, plum, raisin, coffee and some hazelnut. In the mouth it is medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated with great mouthfeel. There is lots of carbonation keeping this well-balanced and really enjoyable.

Pours black with a medium to large mocha head. Aroma is dark roasts, espresso, vanilla, milk. Taste is about the same. A very good and creamy porter with a great mouthfeel!

bomber. oily brownish-black pour with a sturdy looking medium tan head that disappears quickly. aroma is dark chocolate and fruit - with hint of toffee. taste is slick chocolate and cocoa. then bitter coffee and alcohol finish. light peppery spices too. interesting.
