Commercial Description:
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. 2008 bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours a thick black with a large fluffy brown head that leaves good lacing. Aroma has some nice roast and caramel malts with a touch of cinnamon and dark fruits. Taste is mocha coffee with caramel malts, and some chocolate truffles and soot. Darn good. Creamy mouthfeel with light carbonation and a bit of alcohol.

In short: A simple but very effective highly roasted and very chocolaty stout/porter
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed when about 8 months of age. Sent to me by Cretus.
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Very full body. Roasted level is very high, a lot of black chocolate (the kind with very high cacao %). Almost nothing in the way of fruity flavours except maybe a little dried figs. The high roastiness provides a dry sensation. No alcohol presence. Far from complex but very pleasant. I usually prefer my stouts/porters (or any other beers) with more complexity and subtleties but this Baltic Porter is quite effective. Sometimes basic and straightforward is the way to go. Once in a while “Hi my name is Dany, wanna screw?” will get me laid. Once in a while.

(Rating #2539)

22. Thanks, Riverside! Jet black. Thin, moussy tan head. Big roasty, chocolatey, pruney nose with tons of coffee. Medium body, firm carb, very clean and drinkable. Chocolate, roast, fresh ripe pie cherries, and prunes on the mid-palate, along with a shit-ton of coffee. Long coffee finish.

Courtesy of CigarCityBrew. Pours deep darkness with thin mocha head. The aroma is dark roasted malts to burnt malts and toastiness moving toward coffee. The aroma is a bit mild but nice. I get a creamy mouth feel that ushers in burnt and dark roasted malts as well as rich roasty to chocolate malts backed up by sweet molasses. It seems to taste a lot like a bold flavored stout rather than the style stated on the label. Still very nice.

Soft but intoxicating nose of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, and slightly burnt aspects. Dark black beer with no head at all. Flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee. Some sweet and moderately tart ripe fruit. Roast lingers and fights with the sweetness for dominance. Dry lingering burnt and roasted malt flavors. Drinks insanely well, just an incredible beer.
