Commercial Description:
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. 22 ounce bottle from Grape & Gourmet in Virginia Beach, VA. Pours a very dark brown color with a moderate brown head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, coffee, fruit notes including apple, date and raisin. The taste is lightly roasted malts, coffee, caramel, bitter hops notes and faint notes of brown sugar and raisin. Full bodied.

Re-rate, Aug 08: Bumping this sucker up, got the black patent malts for sure, tons of excellent imperial porter notes on top, well-hopped to keep this thing roasty bitter with a big rich chocolate nature. Very nicely done brew, a tad thin and milk-chocolatey on the flavor / mouthfeel, the only features that kept this from soaring on the second go-around. Yum! Bottle SL. Pour was dark brown almost black. The aroma was firm roast, strong chocolate, oats and other grains. The flavor followed the aroma, lots of robust porter notes, some faint bubblegum in the background, not sure I get all the Baltic porter notes. Mouthfeel was moderate for the style, strong roasted presence, dried up hops in the finish. Decent shot by Smutty, but not my fav of theirs.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of aromatic coffee with notes of creamy black chocolate. Taste is very well balance between aromatic coffee without any dryness with some great creamy black chocolate notes with some subtle dry raisins in the finish. Body is quite full with a creamy texture and no apparent alcohol. Another very nice beer from a great brewer.

Pours with a black body topped by a medium thick to thick, brown head with a good amount of lacing left on the glass. It is sweet and malty wiht a note of chocolate and a little roast, as well as a touch of fruity alcohol esters. Full bodied, smooth and a touch warming.

Courtesy dchmela....thanks Dave! Pours a deep, dark chocolate brown with a small, foamy, light brown head. A smattering of spotty lacing speckles the glass. This is a true Baltic, as the massively malty nose clearly indicates. Big notes of bittersweet chocolate, dark caramel, cocoa nibs, and roasted coffee mean serious business. A mildly earthy hop character comes through a little, but make no mistake, this one is malt dominant. The flavor is again huge and intensely roasted, with rich, smooth, chocolaty and caramelized malts. Medium-full bodied and silky smooth, this one goes down easy and finishes with lingering roast. This is right up there with the best that this style has to offer. Fantastic.

Dark brownish/black pour with a long lasting brown head, this is a good looking beer. Creamy mouthfeel with roasty flavors along w/ dark fruit, this is quite tasty. All in all, I think that this is very well done.

Bottle; don’t remember the price, but it was real cheap for the size. Poured a dark brown/black with a decent sized brown head. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malt/barley, caramel, fruit, and earth. Really tasty; nice blend of roasted oats, cocoa and coffee. Hints of neat, smoke, fruit and caramel. Palate was just ok. Not much hop presence. Would have liked some sweetness.
