Commercial Description:
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. THOUGHTS: Very nice. It went down easy for something this bit. One of the better Baltic Porters I’ve had, but then again I can’t think of many bad one either. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured dark brown, that was a nearly opaque black in the glass with an average, tan head that mostly diminished. The aroma was moderate to heavy roasted malt, coffee and chocolate syrupy; along with raisin, prune, cherry, soy sauce and dark chocolate cherry cordials. The initial flavor was sweet, bitter and a little acidic; while the finish was very sweet, rather bitter and acidic with an average to almost short duration. There was chocolate syrupy, dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, prune, raisin, cherry and dark chocolate cherry cordials. The full body was oily with fizzy carbonation and a light astringent and light to moderate alcoholic finish.

One of my favorite styles. Pours a beautiful inky black with a medium brown, creamy head. Aroma is big and complex. I detect notes of raisin, dark fruits, coffee, caramel, and milk chocolate. Drinks very smooth for the high abv. Coffee and sweet fruits dominate the palate. This is a beautiful beer. Very delicous. This is one will be one of my new favorites. Highly recommended.

Draft at Cap Ale House, post 10k recovery beer. Pours black with a creamy tan head, very nice. Aroma is a great blend of coffee accented malts and dark fruits. Flavor is an almost exact match, but just exquisitely balanced, luscious, and full. This is absolutely fantastic, an amazingly good beer.

22 oz bottle. Pours black with a thick, brown, long lasting head. The aroma is chocolate malt, dark fruit and brown sugar. Full body, some tartness. The flavor is chocolate, coffee, dark fruit. Fruity sweetness nicely balanced with coffee bitterness. Finish is enormous, long lasting and very balanced. Simply great!

Wow, this was one hell of a brew. In my memory this serves as the definitive example of a perfect head, color, and lacing in a beer. A rich dark brown head I don’t see very often. Aroma is of intense chocolate and coffee. The flavor also tastes of these two wonderful dark roasts along with additional maltiness and sweetness. I will have it again, and the rating may even get bumped up (Flavor 10/10???)
