Commercial Description:
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. This is becoming a preferred style of mine. This one looks gorgeous. Black, thick dark brown head. Nice lacing too. Aroma is oaky, along with big bag of dried fruit, some mochachino. The palate is light at 1st, then it warmed and tasted a bit boozy, rich, oily, roasted malt present, nice. Very true to the style and enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours dark brown/black, with a brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate, molasses, and a bit of smoke. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, and smoke. Creamy body. Ends slightly bitter. Wow, this is nice.

Bottle shared with and courtesy of GregClow. Pitch black, huge brownish head. Great aroma featuring a ton of roast and some alcohol. Taste features more roast - actually very little of the expected Baltic sweetness here. But man, is that roast every tasting and integrating well with the powerful yet soothing alcohol. Wonderful medium body that manages to be silky yet well carbonated. Long warming alcohol finish with even more lingering roast. Great stuff, but blind I would call this an Imperial porter and not a Baltic...

22 ounce bottle from jjpm74. Pour dark chocolate syrup brown with a lighter brown head. The nose is of a mocha with too much chocolate. It may be a flaw in coffee, but not so much here. Robust flavors. Coffee, fudge, raisins, chewing tobacco, and some ashy smoke. Really good. Huge body. The carbonation is a bit prickly. Dry roasted finish. This is really a wonderful beer.

Dark, murky, midnight black in color with a crème tan wrung around the outskirts. Aroma revels in slabs of bakers chocolate, black patent and broiled leather dipped in the grease of mocha java beans. A spongy, lactic echo fills the nostrils with loving sentiments. Flavor is ever present in true to life smutty fashion. Mocha chips and milk chocolate smeared over smoky leather straps, dangling like stalactites from the edges of the palate. Cocoa pudding sweetness and thickness in palate consistency, edging out with a hint of firewood, flame crested almonds and light accents of applewood and apple butter. Cocoa, figs and prunes and oh so smooth. Crème brulee pools of with a flame capped, crispy caramel character. Cocoa and lightly burnt cinnamon edging over caramel scones complete the classic clinic.

22 oz. bomber. Bottle-conditioned in: 2009. Pours an oily, VERY deep mahogany with a thick mocha head. A rich aroma of roasted coffee, raisins, dark chocolate, vanilla beans, and a touch of grapefruit. Medium to full-bodied and silky smooth. The flavor starts with some sweet caramel, raisins, and molasses. Dark chocolate and coffee follow. Some sour grapefruits at the end. A roasty, lingering dryness finishes things off. A bit of warming alcohol is apparent.

Clear dark brown body with ruby highlights and a small creamy brown head. Sweet roasted malt aroma with some chocolate, caramel, and molassas. Huge sweet roasted malt flavor, lots of caramel, some chocolate and light fruity hints. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation and a smooth creamy finish.
