Warm dark caramel aroma with darker fruits. Full bodied with creamy carbonation that bites a bit. First tast impression is anise with with some raisin. Plus dark malt. Just a bit sweet. Anise goes and/or turns to coffee. Just the thing for a winter night. papajohn (1055), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 10, 2009 Bottled. A pitch black beer with an orangey-brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt, chocolate, and cittrus. The flavor is sweet and acidic from the rosted malt combined with notes of alcohol and lighter notes of soy sauce. The alcohol burns the tongue and palate. Braudog (3770), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 23, 2008 22 oz bottle: Beautiful pour ... cascading tan head, settling into a soapy foam over dark black. The aroma is thick and big, smoky and chocolatey. Drinks with a thick oily complexion, the slight warming aspect the first impression. The flavor leans towards burnt chocolate, bad coffee, and a bit of ashy smokiness. Good. (#3433, 4/23/2008)
